As far as I can see the only reason why Dubliners want an elected mayor:

    1) Have gardaí on the streets and shamed into keeping the streets free from violent attacks, drug taking, and other crimes.

    2) To stop calling him/her the "Lord" Mayor.

Or maybe they just want rid of the cosy little arrangement the larger parties in the council have in which they agree upon who becomes the mayor every year.

An artist ! What did I tell you yesterday, whenever there's a disaster (they see every little incident as a disaster) there's an artist to be found !

    Okay, I'm done

I'm done with shrill nutters, the core of joes listeners

It's a disease and Joe is curating and nurturing the negativity

Best avoided. Just as the advertisers and sponsors do.

    No relevance to my life.

But wait for her to start complaining about government policies like taxes etc, all made the the politicians which she claims have no relevance to her life.

And there you go again, claiming they speak for the majority of us. Nutters, France again.

The councils will still be made up of the usual suspects.

But the mayor nominees will have to have an issue to get elected.

So far, the mayors have been uninterested in crime and anti-social behaviour.

Does she know how long ago the revolution was?

Someone like Mags shouldn't be allowed pollute children with her potty mouth attitude?

Why don't people elect councils who will lower rates, and in return have less council services?

    Will people do this? No.

It seems to me at this stage that Joe just looks down through the callers on his screen and puts on the ones who have very similar opinions to him on topics that he wants to discuss...

"The lunacy we called the Celtic Tiger".

I dont remember him coming out against it at the time.. I dont remember him going in to RTE management and saying "400k, ah jaysus I cant expect the people of Ireland to give me that much just for presenting a radio show. Have ye all gone mad"..

I don't listen to liveline very often, but I caught the last caller today, calling for electoral reform by not voting.

I won't be listening to liveline much in future either. Logic like that they can keep to themselves.

She either is or she is of very weak character and picked up the accent.

She has a nasty crusty attitude too.

    Your move.

Just downloaded the full show on the lifeline podcast feed on iTunes(weird in its self as its usually broken into sections and is NOT ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS) I looked at the shows description. Is Joe's researchers trying to troll us for April Fools? :pac::pac::pac:

Re the elected Mayor for Dublin Joe believes democracy involves placing a further burden on taxpayers

I say well done to the councillors of Fingal CC for rejecting the profligate proposal.

Are you kidding me? The real reason is that any reform of local government, the first thing to go will be the army of powerless and useless councillors.

Interesting also how he conflates the very real economic progress made 1990-2003, with the later property bubble.

A stupid show for stupid people in a stupid country. Except us of course.

turned off after the first caller today. she was whinging that stena line werent selling her products anymore, then giving out that there were new start up companies she had to compete against then giving out the supermarkets cut her products if they were poor sellers. The jist of her call " i dont want competition and supermarkets should stock my stuff if it doesnt sell" meanwhile at the other end of the call Joe "the callers drive the agenda" Duffy is on a totally different tangent about the government and how alan shatter is affecting this lady caller. Dont know if i turned out because of a stupid caller or duffy blatantly trying to drive his own agenda and topics he wanted to talk about

How many times was the word 'authentic' used in that programme. I was roaring ffs at the radio, then copped on and switched off.

    Prediction:

Today's Liveline will involve the outrage regarding the GAA deal with Sky Sports.

    With ordinary people. YAY!

And how people in Australia will be able to see free GAA matches, but people in Ireland will, there is a good chance, have to go to a neighbour's house or send their children to a pub to watch GAA matches, - unless they want to pay a foreign broadcaster.
