Ive had to deal with these clowns on a few occasions. I ignored them one of the times and they came out to the house with police!

But on another occasion I argued their stupidity and got my stuff back.

If can show a receipt for it bought otc and legit then id engage with them and get your bits back.

The questions are standard they ask them of everyone.

Their office used to be near harcourt street and quite easy to get to. Id say go get your stuff back!

    Who are Hyatt?

This is part of the closed network of medical scams in this country to keep the wealthy in the comfort that the government has afforded them. The point being that you cannot buy prescription drugs in another European country and bring them home either.

You might not have a lot of spare cash but doesn't mean you'll catch a break.

    Good luck.

The drug being available OTC is irrelevant if that preparation of it isn't licensed in Ireland. Which its not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 307 ✭✭gavindublin

Said I never ordered or recieved a parcel with any of the documents they had in their possession.

They asked to view my laptop, I asked to view the warrant. They had none and left. It was all half arsed.

Ring and ask them to explain the letter to you before you answer any of their questions

Will my address now be blacklisted and every letter open ?

Its a public health concern as well

Medicines sold in Ireland go through approved suppliers and a licensing process. Counterfeiters are producing just about every medicine imaginable and there can be no certainty it will do what it says - often these are basically sugar pills..

    Seen Dallas Buyers Club yet?

Yaya we not talking abot prescription medicine here we talking about medicine you could buy in Tesco , so only reason them doing this is make us buy 1000 times more expensive pills here in Ireland !
What a country Ireland has become , shame ......

Become? This has been the legal situation here for years if not decades - the 2003 regulations were a replacement set covering much the same things in this area.

Prescription changes nothing. You have no idea about the conditions these drugs are made under, nor can anyone verify the process. There's a such a huge risk when people buy counterfeit drugs or from a non reputable source. In some cases, people are lucky if they only receive sugar pills, it could be any sort of 'filler' that's used.

This will give you the idea of some of these operations:

But the OP's letter seems to suggest the IMB are claiming that Loperamide generally is prescription only. By preparation do you mean brand, or the formulation? AFAIK loperamide 2mg is the standard preparation sold here. Re conditions of manufacture etc - it's hardly fake Viagra or something we're talking about here, only loperamide!

Brand + pack size. There are no OTC 200 packs licenced in Ireland, let alone that brand. Hence that preparation is prescription only as an unlicenced medicine.

Loperamide is an opiod receptor agonist so there is good reason to ensure its manufactured properly.

Regardless of the legal and counterfeit issues I'm wondering why anyone would need that many of the things. If I was using them at a rate that justified buying 400 at a time, I'd be heading straight to my doctor.

Very long-term use of loperamide in cases of IBS is not unheard of, and could easily have been what the doctor recommended anyway.

suppose if the OP came ill after consuming fake medicine, he / she would be claiming that more controls should be brought in. I think in Ireland the maximum a family of adults and children can spend of medicines every month is €150. After that every medicine required is refunded no matter what the cost. I think it is a good system. Imagine, all your family medicine for €1800 a year maximum, no matter how much your earn.

I have recently returned from the UK. Yes, you pay a small prescription fee and and your gp care and medicines are "free". However, unless you have an emergency and go to hospital, it can be 2 or even 3 weeks to get a GP appointment.

If you do have to go to a&e, think of the worst situation here and double it. This is my experience in Bishops stortford in the very recent past and Harlow a&e is meant to be one of the better ones.

I have ordered many medicines from chemists in the UK and they all arrived. Most generics I ordered were made in CLonmel anyway!, but were only for sale in the UK.

The only pack that was intercepted was one with 36 paracetamol 500mg and a bottle of gripe water.

Neither were licensed for Ireland so they took them, I received a different letter though, it just said items not for sale in Ireland, so confiscated etc.

I ordered the day I got the letter and received the next packet.

I have also gotten relatives to get me generic OTC meds in Wales and bring them back..

OP was the letter written with all those grammar mistakes or did you rewrite it to post it?

you dont have to let them inside the door without a warrant.

The IMB are constantly on the look out for imported medicine. One being the abortion pill, which they destroy thousands of every year.

I know from a friend being a nurse, that a patient in the hospital brought diet pills online and ended up with her bowel being destroyed. The teenager will now have to use a colostomy bag for her life.

But the whole law to protect consumer crosses the line. When Irish medicine has a pill per box size unique to Ireland. Paracetamol in the UK has 16 tablets per box and costs around 15p in Boots or Sainsbury. But a packet of paracetamol cant be greater than 12 a strip in Ireland, meaning UK paracetamol cant be sold here. Therefore we have to pay about 20 times the UK Price

    Thanks Mate

If they manage to get warrant for poop pills bought from Ebay well I'll welcome
Them in but as you said without warrant NO !
And I ll say did t order those pills so let court prove I did !
Now I ll do such thing in way of rebel against them and against buying chipper OTC repeat OTC medicine & them lying to me is only prespriction medicine wich obviously NOT!!!!
Those people have right to lie to me ask me ditails of my credit card and letting sick people die just to not buy cheaper pills abroad witch can save there life's , and downgrading other countries as only Ireland check there medicine and other countries sell poison to their people , because Ireland is only propor country in whole world rest of them are scam !!

    Sheme on them !!!

Better to stick to the UK market and use PM for value. In reality someone has to protect people from importing unknown chemicals from dubious sources. What annoys me about the IMB is their insistence on smaller packs of standard drugs like Paracetamol - what is good enough for UK citizens should be good enough for us.

What condition are you going to die from if you don't get loperamide?

You seem ridiculous over-entitled and completely unwilling to accept that you've been caught breaking the law here. You've also given more than enough info to ensure that the IMB can tell who you are and that you not only received the letter but did order the product.

You've now admitted, repeatedly, in a public forum that you did receive the letter and that you did order the products though.

Plenty of pretty easily identifiable info in other posts.

More importantly, how many other people will have been sent a letter for that specific drug, preparation and quantity?
