UPC from adsl provider

    UPC have just updated their local service to include broadband+phone offerings. I was wondering what happens to the landline (pots) service at my house if I switch from adsl to UPC? I currently pay for line rental but assume that will be obsoleted by the switch to UPC's coax/fibre. Would this create a problem if I ever want to switch back to adsl/vdsl?

    UPC run voip over their modem so there's no need for the PSTN line.

    Keep your current service, order UPC and when UPC is installed and working have them port the number from your current provider, then close that account.

    Thanks for that info. I was wondering after the service has moved would Eircom disconnect the copper wire pair at the exchange/cabinet as it would no longer be used? I'm just thinking that down the line, if I ever want to go back to using the PSTN line would there be any hassle.

    They'd disable the line at the exchange, probably not actually disconnect it.

    As long as the line stays in place then it wouldnt mean a new provision if you went back, just needs to be turned back on.


    Dunno why you'd ever go back though.

    I always thought it was common knowledge UPC use their own infrastructure for phones.

    I'd choose Vodafone over UPC because at least Vodafone won't jack up their prices half way through your contract.
