USB device (Ipod) not being recognised by my laptop?

Hi the I-Pod is only 3 months old and the laptop about 18 months, why is this happening? it now won't can't charge. Is there anything I can do about this ? failing all any way to charge the Ipod independently?. Thanks K

you can charge it with an iPod Dock or USB charger

Are you using the same USB port on the laptop. Sometimes not all of them are a "charging port". In that they don't all supply the same current.

This happens mine periodically, usually a reboot sorts it. Occasionally Ive had to uninstall and reinstall iTunes.
