    Tie rod end rather

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,473 ✭✭✭YbFocus

Track rod end nut came off today while on the curragh line offside wheel went completely inward.

So lucky I was only diving 10kmph turning into the yard at work or I was on my roof especially on the curragh line.

Still shaking. Not something that should ever come loose.

A sudden value of life kind of thing :)

I forsee a full check of every bolt and nut this weekend!

    Scary stuff man for sure!

Ignored it since Sunday as I thought it was a loose driveshaft bolt or CV joint on the way out as symptoms were similar.

Slight clunking on low speed turns and vibration on acceleration.

    So lucky.

Pretty **** SG. Hope there's not too much damage done. Damn lucky you were going slow. If that was on the motorway.........

I know, if I was it was going straight into the overtaking lane or worse the central divider. Left front turned completely onward. Not a nice feeling.

    Jesus, lucky escape there!

Did you have any work done to the tie-rod ends etc... recently?

Nope suspension was done last summer.

Unless when recirc valve was being fitted they were taken off the OS for better access but I doubt it very much.

New tyres last month but nothing was spotted. It must have just worked loose but I honestly can't see how.

Guys just to confirm something here, some of you know I've had a issue with a car still in my name well this is it.

The car is still in my name according to Shannon and Eflow after a call this morning and the new owner will be liable for the fine of €245.

I'm the last registered keeper not the owner so I won't be stuck with the fine.

    Just a heads up.

EDIT: It's very quickly been withdrawn, I don't know if it was by a mod or the seller. Either way I hope the paperwork and fine are sorted now.

Quick question with regards to claims/accidents. When insurers ask you for any claims/accidents in the last 3/5 years do you base it on when the accident occurred or when the claim was finalized?

    Are you renewing?

I always use the date of which the accident occured as it's listed on your NCD certificate AFAIK.

MugMugs is worth asking as he works in insurance AFAIK.

When going to lunch some van driver drove out in front of me without looking around and I had to come to a full stop in the middle of a roundabout. :/

    An everyday occurrence sadly.

I'm just looking into various cars to potentially purchase later on in the year and I had an accident in November 2011 so was just curious what it is based off of. Too many nice cars to trawl through!

I had a very similar situation with the my old Alto.

Sold it to a "dealer" and about a month later I got a solicitors letter and a €250 fine for unpaid tolls. Oddly I never got any prior notice.

He had no intentions of sorting anything out, and his response was "well you gave me the logbook". Stupid I know, but I gave it in good faith (still stupid I know) and I vaguely know his sister.

I went down to his place with a trailer and winch and told him he would get the car back when I got the €250 I was owed.

Fines won't be my problem so I'm not to worried. I got a declaration signed and I received a letter from Shannon and Eflow to say I am no longer liable for any fines for the car.

The silly thing is all the seller has to do is send a letter to Shannon declaring when they purchased the car. Although that will leave them with the eflow fine still to pay. Whoever buys the car now and claims ownership will have to pay the fine which isn't very fair.

Wanted to see how fast my car goes 0-100 km/h so I recorded this... :P

In fairness unless you have a big claim against you I think it makes feck all difference.

I have a claim on mine due to criminal damage and had step back protection so went back to 3 years no claims now when my renewal came up shopped around and got it for 100 quid dearer than the previous year. Then when I changed car to a more powerful car it only went up a further 70.

So in my experience me having a claim against me hasnt been the killer I thought it would be.

I made a mess of my front wheel arch, there was a small spot of surface rust that was annoying me and I wanted to fix before it got dark, so I went at it with wet sandpaper, problem is I used masking tape on the area I didnt want to sand but this was a bad idea as i did manage to sand over some of the taped area and there is now missing paint marks. I am going to have to repaint the whole panel tomorrow.

At least your ok that's the main thing. When things like that happen it really makes you think alright.

I ordered LED bulbs for the angel eyes so I can replace the crappy yellow glow with dim-matching 6k white, a clutch delay valve, jack pad and clutch stop from the US and a set of yellowstuff pads from EBC :D

Hao much for the pads? I'd like a bit more stopping power

Lucky there was no damage to you or the car. Might have been replaced without locking nuts. Would be worth a look at the other one to make sure that has one.

I went for redstuff in the end as yellowstuff is mainly for track days but the total was €200 including shipping.

    Thank God no!

One crash in 2009 and my car was stolen a month before that as well.

The likes of Yellow Stuffs and DS2500 I've seen as been highly suggested against for a road car. Supposedly take too much heat for a road car too make their operating temp and then wear at a ridiculous rate. There's guys in the UK even questioning the legality of putting DS2500s on a road car.

I kind of had that idea in my head with the yellowstuff and needing to warm them up before they worked properly but that only applies to ceramic discs I thought?

EBC specifically say on their site that redstuff is better on fast BMWs but talking to another member here about the yellow vs red also helped me make the decision.
