.17 centrefire?

As far as I know it does but ammo is hard come by, I'd say you might need to order it from a dealer.

You can get a .17 hornet or a .17 remington, both are centrefire cartridges that rifles are produced for.

There are probably more but thats all I'm sure factory rifles are available in.

The .17 centre fire is usually what a .17 Remington is referred to. I have one for foxing, it's expensive to feed (€1.50 per round). But what a calibre!!

I had one for a long time and really liked it. Apparently it is (or was) hugely popular in australia for fox shooting. When i had mine only remington made the ammunition for it, but there are other manufacturers now.

There is still a few knocking around in gun shops. Couldnt imagine anything new but plenty of second hand ones. I had a .17REM for a few years, absolutely great calibre but in the end it was just too expensive. For a lad who was shooting nothing but foxes with it then it would be ideal.

Make a few phone calls to find out if any shops near you have any in stock.

You would pick up very clean remy 700 in 17cf for 400-500. Ammo is 40 quid for 20 rounds. For just foxing its a great round. Had a 700 in this caliber and it dropped from foxes out to 250 yards not a bother. Its another of those rounds, like the swift, thats overlooked in favor of the 223. Me personally, I liked it as a foxing round, I just like the swift that little bit more

If we could reload I would definitely get another one but unfortunately at €2 per shot I couldnt afford to take it out and shoot 40 or 50 rounds in a weekend. If a lad had it and was using 1 round per fox then it would be €2 very well spent, but thats like having a 4x4 and staying in the city centre..

Another point about the .17rem when used on foxes is , that you get a tiny entrance wound but no exit wound, the bullet completely fragments inside the animal.
