I would love if people would use their lights in the fog in the morning, nothing worse than coming upon a black focus with no lights on and nearly rear ending him

Went back driving the focus at the weekend. It was almost depressing in a way. 2 reasons the octavia is doing almost 10mpg more than it  and then I was in town Saturday and had my foot to the floor in 3rd on the ring road in Kilkenny and looked down at the clock in the focus and I genuinely thought there was something wrong with and then I struck me that it just can't pull anywhere near as much as the octavia :( the focus felt grand upto now but just feels abit slow after the octavia even though the octavia doesn't feel quick  until you get over 2000 revs or so It's a really sad day when I think a 1.9tdi is quick :) (gets coat )

I didn't think there'd be that much of a difference in power/torque between the 1.6 and 1.9. The 1.9 isn't remapped is it?

Speaking of which. Nearly got rear ended this morning on the N4 by a knob in a 5 series.

I was however lit up with Fogs and Brake lights and he still came within feet of me. His ABS/EBD came on as the car squirmed under braking and the hazards came on. I could do nothing other than swear loudly and plant the brakes.

No just 105bhp. The 1.6 in my focus is only 90 bhp version you can get a 110 bhp which is suppose to be a bit quicker. If you were driving both slowly around town you'd think the focus was quicker because it has a wide power band. Where as the octavia doesn't feel quick at all until you get it up the revs abit then it pulls like a train would leave the focus for dead. I don't know its a weird one.

If some people even used their parks, it'd be a great start! I'm not starting up another fog light discussion fyi :P

You couldn't even see them this morning but with no lights just ridiculous

The fog was very bad going to cork this morning the worst I've seen in a long time. You'd get the odd clear patch but they wouldn't last long back to fog then. As you said plenty of cars with no light, no fog lights on the usual. At lest I know the roads to cork like the back of my hand at this stage.

A common place I've seen is that gap under your legs just in front of the drivers seat. Its out of the way, but easy to get to.

True that, I'll keep it in mind, I've to get two screws for the bracket for it on friday, so hopefully I'll have all my bits by then too

I've the 110. Pulls really well in 3rd from 1200rpm-2500rpm. Nice wide power band. Variable scroll turbo FTW.

Ah for 90bhp my one pulls well. 3rd does seem to be the best gear in them alright. I've never found it slow other than for over taking which realistically any diesel under 140 bhp will probably feel a certain amount slow for over taking well without dropping gears anyway. Maybe the octavia isn't that good at all. I think I built it up to be so bad in my head as all my mother does is complain about it :pac: certainly seems to pull well though for a 105 either way. The 1.6tdi octavia is far better than the focus in everyway well the 90 bhp version anyway but then that a lot more modern so probably not a fair comparison.

I know your pain. My current hack has 82bhp..... Overtaking requires a relatively long straight. It does have the advantage of being nimble in the corners (like a fat go kart) and being easy on petril but coming down from the E39 is a huge difference in many ways :(

Anyone using the app QuizUp? It's a pretty good quiz app with over 420 topics including cars of course. You can challenge each other over Facebook or the app itself, it's pretty good. I'm the Car Czar :pac:

Why what are you driving now?

    Bravo 1.2

When its on backroads its great crack as always, just when I'm on main roads trying to overtake someone I need a lot longer than when I was in the 520 or the 406

Primera is 88bhp so I think overtaking is off the cards for me for the next while :p

There was a guy being interviewed on the radio today who has written a book essentially on Bangernomics but he had a higher budget. Since 2009 he has changed cars every 6-8months at a total cost of €1200 on depreciation/tyres/servicing and repairs. This was over 70 odd thousand miles. Sounded like an interesting read but probably stuff I already know for the most part. Did anyone else hear it or know what the book is called?

Car hunting. A work in progress pacman.gif

I'd probably prefer the facelift to that again. Why do alfa ad's say 1.7? Presume that's a 1.8

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/03-audi-a4-2-5-tdi-quattro-nct-5-14/6571115
    Don't know if I could stomach the tax, although it's only 300 more than a 1.9 redface.png

Fairly dull... especially in beige :).

Was looking at e46 320d's but engine seems to be a ball of sh;te from reading online. Powerful and good economy though.

The diesel 156 sportwagon would be the dogs but two chances of finding one in ireland. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201403032202586/sort/default/usedcars/onesearchad/used/make/alfa_romeo/model/156/page/1/radius/1501/fuel-type/diesel/body-type/estate/postcode/sy101aa?logcode=p

    Euro 3* 2.4 diesel D5 V70 anygood????

*on those Volvos the Euro 3 is better than the Euro 4 - due to no DPF - and for reasons only Volvo understand - the Euro 3 is better on fuel then the Euro 4

Considered them alright, but I don't want to go full on barge. Pity the v40 is limited to the 1.9.
