I live in Carlow too :) One of my neighbours has Wimax and says it's great, I'm not sure about download limits but I'm sure this can all be found on their website.

WiMax itself isn't a bad technology but Imagine's implementation of it is flawed. It works best as a fixed wireless system (aerial+transceiver on the roof). It doesn't work well as a mobile system.

paying for 10gb geting max 2 dwnload 500kb upload less then mile from tower. Cut my speed every two weeks a faction of the above. Due to fair usage its not unlimited that's a lie. I have sky now

I don't have Imagine but I remember that when you go onto the pirate bay or another site like that it says it has been blocked by Eircom, Vodafone, Imagine, UPC etc. I don't know for sure though.

Do they block torrents or is it just some site and what is the average download load of your connection? Is it worth getting if it is the only option apart from mobile broadband?

I just spoke to a guy who was so unsatisfied with Imagine he payed the €150 cancellation fee just to be rid of them.

If you can't get cable, FTTC (eircom e-fibre and similar products), the next best option would be 'fixed wireless access'.

Various companies provided it and they put a little antenna on your roof.

WiMax and mobile data type products would be the last option I'd look at.

If I was getting 2.5mb or higher I would be happy. Most night on three it is under 1mb. Are you close to the transmitter?
