The difference is, you havn't ripped out a good crt to stick in an lcd. You're making progress even by using an lcd, which you can always swap out later on down the road :)

However , is there any point in getting a SLG in the meantime? Is it much better than the MAME emulated scanlines?
The bolted on Xarcade a lot of people have is pretty bad looking though!

Try the triad6.png effect. imo it gives a pretty good effect.

    Mame scanlines are pretty good.
Where the hardware slg's work better is if you have a bunch of different emulators, each of which might generate a different style of scanline if any at all. At least with the SLG the look will be consistent.

I have become an Irish distributor for Rich's Bartop Arcades. For anybody intersted in taking on a project and building their own bartops check out the following ad on adverts.ie:

    Thanks guys! :-)

Special non adverts rates for regulars of the forum of course.

is triad.png suitable emulating scanlines on CRTs at 31khz or is it for lcds and hlsl?

Why would one need to emulate scanlines on an CRT?

Are you trying to make a 15k scanline image from a 31k game?

I have a mame pc hooked up to my trisync atomiswave.

I can run mame at 15khz with real scanlines no bother but it becomes a chore having to adjust the h size and v size every time I select a different game.

Running at 31khz keeps the game aspect constant but without scanlines so emulated scanlines are an option. Just wondering is the triad png suitable here?

You still have scanlines in 31k alright, they're just at a higher resolution so look smaller.

If you can't get it to work via software, you could always try a downscaler?

They're not that expensive at all. I got an Xtron RGB from the Pyongster for about €30 I think it was.

It basically converts your 31K signal into a 15k signal for proper arcade scanlines.

Very interesting. Do you have a link please?

Here's a brilliant article about the whole process of downscaling.

    http://scanlines.hazard-city.de/

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Extron-RGB-160xi-Universal-Computer-To-Video-Interface-with-Audio-ADSP-60-378-01-/131127148888?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item1e87c98158

It has VGA in and BNC out. The original intent is to take computer video signals and downscale them to work on an SD monitor.

I'm just trying to figure out how you'd fit it into your Atomiswave (as I take it you're using the VGA in to the monitor?)

Another thing you might be able to do is get one of those cga2vga scalers (you can get them on arcadeforge, but ebay has them much cheaper)

Then there's an arcadeforge adapter for it which sends the video signal to the jamma edge.

    http://arcadeforge.net/Scaler-and-Strike-Devices/Jamma-Adapter-for-cga2vga-scaler-PCB::70.html

I have one of these if you'd like to give it a try out. You'd just plug your MAME PC into the scaler's VGA in and then the Jamma adapter would go into your jamma harness like a standard PCB.

The adapter is a passthrough device so I think you'd still be able to plug your JPAC in too.

    Hey guys,

Where do you get your artwork printed? Looking to print artwork for my bartop on self adhesive vinyl... non bubble if possible.

Every website wants you to email them or whatever for a quote. Why can't I just send these places my design via the website and get a quote? Do these companies not realise that it's the 21st century?

Gonna be a dickhead and quote my own post.

Yeah, I mentioned in a post before, but I imagine it'd get more love here. I know a guy who'll do all your custom-sticker printing for your cabs and whatnot. Might do poster prints too, can't hurt to ask. Send him an email with what you want, design and size wise, and he'll get back to you with a quote. He's done a ton of sign-installations, everything from upmarket retailers to snazzing up boats. So, plenty of experience and flexibility.

    He's available at Tonybracken@gmail.com.

Emailed him last night, waiting to hear back now.

Thanks for the head's up on that.

I get all my artwork done with this company all their stuff is great quality and fairly priced, gives you price straight away based on overall size, also option to have it laminated or not

Thanks for the recommendation. I currently have the left side, right side and marquees in separate high quality and to scale tiff files.

Would you recommend that I combine these all into a square sheet and then just order it in one go?

What way do you do it if you don't mind me asking? Also what are their prices like? Does their self adhesive vinyl have microholes in order to prevent airbubbles?

I've never applied vinyl graphics before so I'd like to limit the damage against my own inexperience. :-)

    Thanks.

Don't know about micro holes, yes put it all onto one sheet and save it as a PDF file and you upload it to their site, you need to add 2mm to measurements for bleed or they won't except it, so if your overall size is
    1200mm x 600mm
    Just make the canvas size
    1202mm x 602mm
Turn around with them is about 4 days
