Playing scales

Piano beginner here... 5 weeks so very new :-) When playing scales is it beneficial to learn how to play both hands at the same time or is it enough to learn each hand on its own?

Yes and both. If you have the time to spend, you will benefit hugely from breaking each technical task down to its smallest technical components. Even practice the pairs of notes within the scales. So....

... Certainly. Practise each hand separately, and together. You will see results. Applies to every instrument really. Technique is the foundation, and is carried from each piece to the next. It'll stand to you.
