I would imagine he would be in an almost identical situation except he'd have hair.

Really? You don't think he'd be starting ahead of Fanning? I think the main problem at Munster is he's not getting much game time

Oh yeah I think he probably would be starting ahead of Fanning. But he has played as many games for Munster this season as Fanning has for Leinster, with Fanning having a little over 150 mins more game-time. If he stayed at Leinster I'd imagine he'd simply have played more mins by now, but be in a similar situation.

I feel for the guy because he was extraordinarily potent at under-age level and kept up that strike-rate in the British and Irish cup, but it just isn't translating to pro rugby. I don't know if it's physical or mental. Sometimes there's moments where I think he simply doesn't have the physicality to cut it on defence, and then there are moments where I think he's holding back in offence.

EDIT: Always have to remind yourself that he's only 22 though. Same age as Craig Gilroy and Luke Marshall. He's always struggled with injury and never really got an extended run for Leinster or Munster.

Actually thinking about it, he's got more game-time for Munster this season than he did his 1st,2nd and 3rd season with Leinster, and he's bound to get some more before the season's through. I think the more game-time he gets the more comfortable he becomes and plays his natural game. As was evident in his final season with us.

    So, for Glasgow

    McGrath
    Cronin
    Moore
    Cullen
    McCarthy
    Ruddock
    Murphy
Conan (this is a bit of a wild card, but playing at 7 might help Jordi's international cause and I'd love to get a look at Conan again)
    Reddan
    Madigan
    Fitzgerald
    Reid
    Macken
Fanning (going by bib theory it looks like.. again.. sigh)
    Kirchner
Conan's been an eight all his rugby playing life. He has never played at seven.

The suggestion is Murphy plays at 7 so Conan can play 8.

I'm not sure Conway would start ahead of Fanning imo. There's better players than Fanning not getting game time. Conway doesn't fit MOC's history for big wingers.

Could be wrong but think 830 is the latest KO we have ever had in the RDS

Leinster a v munster a played in RDS good friday and drink was served, dont know if varadkar or whoever can sort it again or if it was a permanent change in sports arenas?

ye 8.30 is a disgraceful time and a real kick in the teeth to travelling fans and those with family season tickets.

You sure about the Good Friday match? Schedule not fixed for that weekend on the Rabo web site.

That Good Friday exemption was actually dependant on the venue. Don't know the specifics of it. But that was my understanding of it.

I saw it on the Leinster website. There is no time fixed for it so it might not be set in stone.

I'm seriously contemplating not going on Saturday. I haven't missed a match but we bring a kid to the games. An 8.30 kick off means leaving the RDS at best, 10.15. I'm not sure if we'd make it back into town in time to get the bus home! Even if we did, home after 11 is way too late for a kid.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,555 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Yeah, I think the RDS has a license that allows it to serve at "event"s on Good Friday (or something along those lines) so should be fine again.

Same venue so potentially similar outcome? Anyone else know if its being discussed?

I think that's just a holding position (note that there is no time indicated)

I dont think the fixtures have been finalised and announced yet for that weekedn or the 2 May weekend

of course that doesn't mean it wont be on Good Friday

It was the B&I cup last time so a smaller event

all other pubs would be closed

the Limerick vintners had to get a court order to allow them open when the match was on in Limerick. I think Rabo would learn and not repeat these issues (hopefully)

ye pretty much. Families don't want to be getting back home after 11 O'Clock to put kids to bed.

Just wait til 10pm kick offs :D

Its pretty damn late in fairness, that 30+ mins really makes a difference

As Leinster don't make any Money from the sale of alcohol I can't see them being massively concerned about a Good Friday game if the TV companies want it on that day

it would be more the local vintners I was thinking off who would be pissed

that being said its Treviso and not a derby like before so may not be as big an issue

We do tend to have a fair few 8pm kick offs and 8.30 isn't that much later in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,078 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Yes, I saw the Good Friday on the Leinster web site but no time, so I'd say it isn't yet fixed. I wish they'd make up their minds as I want to make plans for that weekend.

We are getting some crap fixtures this season - 8.30 p.m. this weekend is ridiculous - very family unfriendly. And the two away fixtures in France on Sunday - bad for people working next day.

it's odd because there are no Sunday games scheduled for some reason so perhaps its a knockon of that

Yeah an 8:30 kick-off is ridiculous. There are only four 8pm kick-offs in the entire AP season this year and none any later than that. It doesn't affect me as I don't have any kids, but still it's pretty feckin' obvious that it's a poor time.

As for the match on Good Friday, again it doesn't affect me. I don't buy beer in the RDS anymore. I did for the first time in a long time the last day and it set me back €11.40 for a Guinness and a Carlsberg, both of which were pretty vile. They can feck right off if they think I'm giving them any more of my business. I wouldn't be hanging about for pints anywhere after either as I don't have the money to be doing that regularly so I have to pick and choose...

To be truthful I wouldn't be surprised if some families don't renew season tickets over this, as they'll now figure if they've done it once this year they may do it multiple times next year.

I've a toddler and there has only been 1 kickoff time this year that we could bring him to and I've already decided not to bother renewing my season ticket as a result as it's not worth it

That 30 mins makes all the difference for public transport... Especially if you are heading to town to get a second bus out of town.
