Things that pi55 me off in the library:

    People talking
    People with runny noses sniffing
    People typing loudly
People's phones constantly vibrating on desks

    Stupid weather...

Thomond had no electricity or heating from midday till about 11 last night. Was pretty tough, had to bunker at a friend's in dromroe to steal electric!

    On another note:
The shady people that own the houses in Elm Park are scary :/ I just moved into an Elm Park house. The guy won't give us the number of the landlord as he is the agent.

Said my deposit is 200e and then 200e upfront for the month (fair enough) but then text later saying I gave him 400e & he would give me 50e back since it was only 350 that time.
Then came in all threatening and refused to give me it back, basically accusing me of lying or losing the extra 50 as he 'recounted' it and only had 350...Bull****. I got out precisely 400 for him :/

Anyway, he's pretty shady and won't give two of the lads who've left their deposits back.

    Great...

    Just needed a bitch....
Hope that doesn't cause me more problems down the line.

You need to follow this up. Go to the newspaper about it.

Some poor soul in the library last night managed to delete her entire fyp.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭snausages

I accidentally deleted my entire FYP along with a ton of other files when dropbox desynced everything and deleted it off my hard-drive and wouldn't revert it back even when I opened a ticket. Thankfully I had it already submitted by that point lol otherwise I don't know what would have happened.

Always pays to back it up on a email system or something

Did she scream? Whats the story if this happens? Is it just a case of tough luck, good luck with scrapping together another fyp in 2 months?

Believe so. Students responsibility to back things up. Might get some possible extension by talking to Department/Course head but that's not guaranteed. Any lazy sod could just say the same happened to them. Kinda hard to prove you did any work when the problem is you've deleted all evidence of it. During my FYP lectures it was emphasised that deadlines were fixed.

People who don't mute their laptops and get a Facebook message every 20 seconds.

I would imagine in genuine cases she would be shown some compassion and given some sort of extension.

More seriously, people should always create a backup on a separate system to where their working on it. (USB, other computer, attach to a draft email?, etc...)
If you're using some sort of synced backup like google drive or dropbox, make sure that you can access the revision history. If you can't access the revision history and you delete a synced version they your deletion will by synced and you'll lose it all!

Almost lost my FYP, put my laptop to sleep and after coming back from class word had f'ed up and destroyed my FYP, took a chance and restarted by laptop. Word worked and my FYP survived, than I backed it up on everything I could, 3 emails, 2 usb, dropbox, Skydrive, uploaded the PDF to many different sites. I almost learned the hard way the importance of back-up.

FYP module opened the site to get our supervisors and they expect us to wait a week to get one?
    No effin' way.

People being sneaky, hiding things from each other and arranging meetings. If they think I'm holding back they can get lost!

Lecturers that think you're only studying their module. I have several others too, go away with the insane workloads.
