do hasselblad's need a lens to have the shutter fire ?
or should it be able to do so on its own ?

Are there any other options then the Carl zeiss lens ?

i am really impressed by the quality of the photo's !
(ebay sometimes has pretty good prices on these, and i am really tempted to buy one)

I have an 18 year old 500cm, if you've any questions about it just post.

The 500cm is the best thing I ever bought, but do your research as they are not for everyone. They are totally manual [no lightmeter], heavy, expensive, but totally reliable and great quality. Lenses are expensive and if you are used to zooms, think again.

Ask yourself first, do you want square format?

If so, don't buy on eBay though unless you pay through Escrow.com. eBay is goo for small things only IMHO. Take my advice and buy from Ffordes. If you want to have a look at some Hasselblads locally, go to the only Irish seller, DML [they are very nice people too]

I am buying trough ebay because i can buy one cheap and am currently trying to get trough to a repair man to get an idea of price of 'repair' which is most likely going to be just a check.

    It's a 500c that is on offer.
is it normal that it doesnt fire without the lens or should it ?
This 500C would be a second camera and to experiment with it.. practice makes art ? :)

I have no problems with square formats, actually i think they could have good effect on the subject, better then a ordinary format.

the shutter is in the lenses, you should find out the serial number of the camera to determine the age of it.

You could also go into DML, I think they have a few 500c bodies there. Mostly pros go in there and they just might take an offer on one. There is a repair shop right beside DML who repairs Hasselblads.

How to tell the age of your new hasselblad by the serial no as some 500c bodies are actually 500cm

    V H P I C T U R E S = 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

So a serial # that starts RSxxxxx means the camera or back was made in 1980 and EVxxxx means the camera or back was made in 1991, etc.

when you give your camera to the camera repair guy, you should ask about replacing the focusing screen. If it has the original screen, it will be a bit dark aparently and for a few euro you can have him replace with a newer one. The current screen is the Acute Matt D screen with you wont need but you may be able to pick up older Acute Matt screen.
