If those 406 coupes had the 1.9 engine that the saloon had, I'd be all over one of them!

Tractor engines should be verboten in stylish cars :pac:

Parkers reckon 31mpg that's for combined. You'd prob get better on more open roads but it's a big heavy car to be lugging around town.

    It's a nice car tho!!

    http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/bmw/5-series/saloon-1996/19311/

Id say you'd be doing well to get that. I get around 30mpg from my is200 and the BMW is a 2.2, mine is only 2.0.

Those Toyota engines are known to be absolute pigs on juice, I'd say the 5er would be better.

Don't know anything about these but this seems good value. New NCT apparently.

    26681344.jpeg

A year of test and 3 months warranty.

    26345784.jpeg

Long test and full service history

    26212218.jpeg

Low mileage and long NCT, nice 4x4 if you can get over the retro interior!

    26544316.jpeg

    And finally:

    26779553.jpeg

Dayzel sports model With NCT and 1 month of tax. Was rear ended but if the damage is cosmetic then it's great value.

    2.0 petrol 178k km

    NCT - Jan 15

    1500 euro

I have the same car - absolute peaches. Easy to live with day to day too.

    Yeah they are thirsty alright.
I worked out it would cost about an extra 80 quid a week to run the e39 over a 1.9 tdi when you factor in tax, insurance and petrol. Id say tyres etc arent cheap either.

It would be soooo much nicer tho, but running costs are a bit too saucy for me at the moment.

Would you share the figures you worked out with us, please? I'd be very interested :)

No i'd prefer not to as it would only lead to the figures being picked apart.
If you think it would be much less than feel free to tell me how much less, Im open to being convinced to buy that car :-)

They're under a tonne. Fairly nippy I'd say

Hmmm. I've an awful itch for an extremely cheap fun car. Budget low hundreds and it must be viewable in Dublin tomorrow. It needs three months NCT and tax is a bonus. And it must be ok to drive. I'm thinking an mgf. Can't help me can you?

I apologise i meant an extra 40 a week making it 80 a week in total to run the e39 not 120.

Now thats roughly in my head without taking into account tyres and maintanence etc just tax insurance and fuel

This is what I found you. They might not be the most fun cars to drive but still :)

If this car checks out it is excellent value! Saab 900, Tax 4/14 NCT 7/14.

There were a few Polos available in dublin too but then definitely don't fit the fn criteria and looked mad rough.
That saab is your best bet I think :)

That figure I can believe. Hope you're not upset that my bullsh1t indicator hit the roof with your previous figure, prompting my previous post? ;)

To be honest the figure is heavily dependant on mileage and an age/NCB etc. 80/week could sound high, but if one is doing 50k a year and is under 25 with a 1 year NCB then 80 is actually low.

Airbag light seems to be on there. If it's a quick fix then that's a nice little car.

Due to mental impairment, I'm unable to provide a link, but I picked up a 1998 2.0tdi Primera off Adverts this morning, the red one for people who have special powers...full years NCT, two months tax and it drives like a newie. €700 snots. It's leggy at 250k, but driving, you'd think it had 85k done. The TDis are getting scarce, but I love them. Bangernomics ftw.

Nice one Stravos. Are there any bangers out there for around 1500 quid with firm seats?

I firmly believe those gen 6 Celicas have only one way to go pricewise. In 5 years they will be like hens teeth and appreciated for the great car that they are. I already know a few businessmen that are buying them as their weekend bit-of-fun and the fan club is quietly growing.

First time on here (or any blog in fact..), but long time viewer of the info and advice on Bangernomics. Thanks a mill to you all for the help.

I bought my banger for €550 in Jan 2012, and now have it up for sale again for more 0:), 20k miles later. I came across another Banger I couldn't resist..

Link below, and I'd appreciate your collective steer on the ad. I've had a few calls (mostly headers), but no viewers to date.

Only thing slowing sale of that down is it's not dublin viewing, good advert, not much point in lowering price either as they nerve pay asking.

I don't think you'll find anyone in Ireland under 25 driving a petrol E39 BMW over 50k miles per year ;)
