A little bit, yes. He's right, we all have prejudices of one kind or another, and plenty more of them than we realise. It's important to try and step back and spot those prejudices, and work on reducing or eliminating them.

I'm wondering now if that laugh was an example of such prejudice. You'd have to ask Panti who it was originally intended.

I thought that was the most interesting part of the speech in a lot of ways. As someone who makes a living out of the gay lifestyle, I always thought Rory O'Neill would be 100% secure in his sexuality. But watching the speech and the insecurities on display gave me the impression that "Panti" was the public mask he hid behind, that it was too scary to stand out there as his private persona Rory and let the world judge. Put a new spin on the character for me.

What a wonderful observation. Nice to know that I'm not the only one with sporadic anxiety about my sexuality

my apologies if I've taken you up wrong, but when you say (paraphrasing) "maybe he thinks he can crossdress without getting abused" it read to me like you were suggesting that abuse was the proper response and he's a fool to expect otherwise?

No, it could have been "clearer" alright. Methinks that it was a bit of a Freudian slip, at the very least. Or the slip of the mask, rather.

    (Quote working again, yay!)

I have no idea how this debate keeps coming the online abuse.

-Tell me why you think opponenents of same sex marriage are not homophobic.

-I do not need to tell you. I got death threats.

    End of argument.

Twitter is fairly nuts at the moment, but it's definately coming from both sides. Only one side, however, are choosing to use it as leverage,

To be fair, often through anonymity, people often get heated and make comments they may not mean online. However you can never discount some lunatic.

However, what did the Gardai say when he reported this? I'd be curious.

Well its just that they aren't coming from paramilitary grouping. Theres no statement saying 'Such activity goes against (blah blah) and will meet with the ultimate sanction'. It's whinging as cover.

And if they are, it's still not homophobia, if you're to follow Paddy Manning's logic.

I wonder if anyone would take him seriously, if a gay man against marriage equality (given a platform of course) could influence the undecided voter.

Paddy made a holy show of himself. What sort of person claims to be perfectly non-discriminatory? A person who hasn't quite got a grip on reality.
@strictlyobiter: Depressing how some gay ppl think they must be a plus royaliste que le roi social conservative to gain acceptance by those they esteem #vinb

Sums up this man fairly accurately.

If he was at all coherent and in control of himself, perhaps. He contradicted himself too many times to count and was all over the shop. Full of wasteful anger.

He does seem to have a strange world view and I'm not sure what giving him a platform really adds to the debate bar a lot of loud noises.

Maybe that can be a new, safe neknomination. A paddynomination. Try to figure out what the hell he is about as a person.
