I am considering splaying the window reveals of my new build to leave more light in and as an attractive feature. It looks to me as though the 6 inch cavity would not be closed as well as a standard reveal and timber would have to be used which would not be as strong a cavity closer as block. Any thoughts or experience with this anyone?

thats an engineering detail because your wall ties at jambs need proper blockwork bedding to work.

with a splay reveal there is no reason why the return cant be used in all blockwork..use a guillotine to break the blocks for the angle your require..the window jam will still be closed the same as a normal jam expect its at an angle.

    Hi,

Apologies for resurrecting this old post but im struggling to find information on this.

Traditional block build with 150mm cavity. I want to have splayed reveals on the inside of the windows.

Following conversations with blocklayer the only option that has come is cutting each block for each window which is a lot of work.

Could the setup in the image possibly work, using insulated plasterboard to create the angle?

    Anty thoughts?

That's doesn't look like a very good idea. Structural issue with window strapped to outer block I would suggest.
