Heh, were there many caps on that?

A lot of the boards I have seem to just have three to four big, radial caps. They have longish legs so there doesn't seem to be anything too fiddly. Just stick the legs through, bend off the ends and apply a bit of solder.
I think there was about 14 little tiny ones on it, i attempted it myself but failed. it was the first time i tried doing it though, id probably be better at it now.

Most of them are very handy, though a way to remove solder is a must. I use a cheap & cheerful solder vacuum thing, it's spring loaded so you just melt the solder then place this over it & hit the button. Once the old solder is removed, the caps usually slide right out. The only thing to watch for, is some caps are soldered on both sides of the pcb, which makes it that bit trickier

They probably have sellers from Ireland blocked. I have my account set up as a UK account to make Parcel Motel stuff easier to deal with. I also like being charged in Sterling as the Euro to Sterling rates are always better from Visa than Paypal.

Thanks :) I have one of those spring loaded vacuum things around somewhere. Very handy tool alright.

The main issue I had in the past when trying to solder was I just couldn't get the heat to transfer.

The iron was hot, but the connectors just wouldn't get hot enough to melt solder. Wasn't using any tips on the iron though, so I'm hoping that was it!! :D

Yup, if I do win just transfer it into my PayPal account and I'll have it delivered to you. You're a trustworthy sort so I don't mind at all! :-)

Yeah, you'll need to be using a tip of some sort :o The tip will focus the heat onto a smaller surface area, so you'll be able to melt the solder & get it flowing. What wattage is the iron actually?

I think it was 30w, I saw you recommending something around the 15w range to avoid damaging components?

    How about one of these?

Depending on the job, I use either that exact one or else the same type but a 25w. I find them suitable for almost anything, from jtagging a 360 to building a supergun. Obviously they're at the lower end of the scale, but unless your doing soldering work every day, I don't see the point on buying the more complex stations. They can be bought from Radionics I think for cheaper, the Maplin stuff seems dear

The 15 Watt will struggle with larger components (most of the caps) soldered to the ground planes as the ground will soak up most of the heat, go for the 25 Watt one instead.

15 watt is more suited to finer smd stuff.

Sometimes though when desoldering leaded components you'll find as you pull out the component the hole will fill with whatever solder the sucker didn't get.
I use a 0.5mm tip on the iron to get into the hole and suck out the remaining solder from the other side. Poking around with the bigger tip on top of the board will more than likely do more damage then good.

... and now for some actual games:

    Red-Dead-Donkey-Kong.jpg

Both for a grand total of €7. A €5 Tesco find and a €2 I'm-sick-of-checking-as-they-never-have-any-good-stuff-anymore-but-ah-sure-I'll-give-it-a-look charity shop find. I love games with maps and it's in great condition.

also a charity shop find. They've had the same bunch of old pro evo's forever but this was there the other day. Supposed to be fairly decent

It's a bit like ni no kuni, gorgeous to look at but outstays it's welcome very quickly. I prefer it to ni no kuni but it's one of those RPGs you find hard to finish.

My local tesco seem to have restocked some of the games. I saw a label for adventure time on the 3DS for €5 but no copies to be found.

Did you try the one in Ballybrack ? I picked up a few titles for the PS3 there on Saturday, didn't notice the 3DS titles though...

Won't be near it for a while, could you see what they have if anything next time you're in?

    Cheers.

Finally got a power cable for the 3dsxl in The Euro Shop no less. It's USB so i'll want to get a proper charger at some point.

No games to play so far apart from eShop stuff. Sonic 1 in 3D on the larger XL screen looks amazing.

No way! I think I figured out why he blacklisted me.

I knew I recognised his name - I noticed a while back this lad has been listing quite a few Gunforce 2 PCBs.

Gunforce 2 is a pretty rare game and worth quite a sum. I was going to buy one from him.

However, when I saw he'd sold quite a few in the last while and the eeprom stickers look a bit non descript, I sent him an email asking if they were originals or conversions. Never got a reply.

I see he's listed another one.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Arcade-Pcb-board-GUN-FORCE-II-IREM-1994-JAMMA-board-/251436011978?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a8ac111ca

So they're either odd originals and I offended him or else they're conversions listed as originals and he doesn't want me fecking with his dodgy auctions.

Sounds like a bit of an arsehole if you ask me!
