I found a brochure in the RTE Guide from shopathome.ie, I purchased an item from them in November, I received a receipt by email confirming my purchase and they took the money from my Visa account, I have still not received the item and any time I make contact with them they have no details of my purchase, I give them my receipt no, my Visa card no, my address etc but nothing shows up according to them that I purchased anything from them, I contacted Visa who confirm they were paid, I have emailed four times with no reply.

Where can I go from here the item only cost 25 pound but the issue here is how can they take money from me and yet have no details about me.
Who can I contact to see what my rights are etc, any help appreciated.

We also bought an item on 2nd December 2013 and still have not received item . We have received various excuses such as computer problem, item returned etc, Today i found out that they were out of stock in December but only received new stock in January but still they took the money in early December.Their website says delivery in 2 working days but in early January the told me up to 10 working days. At this stage I believe nothing they say and I would advise any prospective customers to be very careful

I have had the same problem. Placed order 9th Dec 2013, money was taken from my credit card 10th Dec 2013 - my initial problem was there was no option to select a colour in the item I wanted. Today has been my 20th time calling them (aswell as 2 emails) - any time I ring they can't find my details of the order even tho I have a confirmation email - they just ask me for a customer number, I was only given an order number which seems useless to them for some reason. I am beyond fuming, noone seems anyway helpful. I did however get a call before Christmas (even tho they can't find any details on me - strange much??) who confirmed colour I wanted and told me I'd have item in 7 working days. A week later I had a missed call from another girl who left me a number to ring back on that doesn't actually even ring. I got through to the most unhelpful girl today who tried to convince me my credit card company hadn't cleared the payment which they have. I rang back straight away and still can't get anywhere. The girl that originally called me never returns my calls. The charge was only €30 but it's more the principal now that I have a confirmation email, I paid for an item and I've had to waste my time and numberous phone calls only to get nowhere and repeat myself over and over. It was a little catalogue out of the Sunday World that i saw the item, little did i know the hassle it was going to be. I would urge anyone not to have anything to do with them. I really don't know what to do at this stage. I'm very annoyed that they are very quick to charge for the item but I still havn't the item i paid for. Stay away from Shopathome.com!!!!

LipsyAddict, If it is any help , yesterday I asked for a supervisor and I threatened the Regulator and to call the Police as I felt I was defrauded. As a result they promised to reimburse my credit card. They said that it can take up to 3 working days for it to take affect. I will wait and see as , like you, I would question their credibility.

Thanks SeanON, I do definitely feel there is something very strange going on. It makes no sense that anyone places an order and then they can't be found. I did think that if i didn't get a callback as promised today (which as of yet I havn't) that I will ask for a supervisor tomorrow and see what happens. No doubt i'll be fobbed off again. It's very frustrating that they can get away with things like this to innocent people.

I do understand that I can asked to be reimbursed but since the end of Dec I have switched banks so the card used is now closed down which could cause some more hassle for me but i may try threatening them, they're not to know what i'll do!

I will also be informing them after investigation that I have discovered more people not happy with them.

Strom 10 can I ask if you have gotten anywhere with them as like you my details "can't be found" - ironically THEY are the ones getting ratty with me on the phone for ringing them to see where a product is that I PAID for. Also ironically the one person that was able to find my number is always on a call when I ring. It makes no sense that she could find my number and order but noone else can - somehow I fear she's "vanished"......

Just had a look at shopathome.ie, they are linked to Buyasyoufly limited (same company number and address, and according to the solocheck results the Business Name is owned by the company Buyasyoufly Limited ) Buyasyoufly ltd have 2 company directors listed on solocheck, one of whom is Chrys Chrysostomou. A quick google brought up some interesting reading and i personally would do an immediate chargeback on my credit card if i ordered from this company and had not received my order after reading about some of his other companies.

Mail order shark Chrys Chrysostomou must love this column - he goes that extra mile to get into it.
His company US Euro Link plc was the first winner of our Awful Service Award on account of all the complaints we'd received about people who'd sent money for orders that never arrived.
More recently we showed how it was behind dodgy alternative health remedies going by the name Healthy For Life. Now it's been flogging an electronic salt and pepper mill set, apparently reduced from £50 to £10.
The Advertising Standards Authority asked if it could prove that they'd ever sold for £50.
Other firms might have tried to defend themselves. Not US Euro Link.
It didn't even bother replying to the watchdog.

This one relates to the "dodgy health remedies" article that the above refers to:

Thank you for that post Chasm. I am just off the phone from them after over a half hour! Funnily enuf when I told them I found the whole thing suspicious and after some investigation found others had problems with them and I refused to get off the phone until I spoke with someone who could tell me where my order was - my order was found!!!!! What a surprise!!!!!!!! I got some story about my order being "stuck in the system" which when I queried was told COULD have been down to a website update, i told them I still didn't buy it, I was offered a refund but my problem is that the credit card used for the order has been since closed so the girl on the phone (who was actually helpful, and i did half apologise to for getting angry) has told me she will send me a cheque. I'm still not sure whether i believe this or not but i did let her know that if I havn't received it by next week I will not be leaving it and would be taking matters further.

I still have serious doubts about this company, I've done alot of online shopping on alot of different sites and have never come across this before. Fingers crossed I do receive my cheque and I can forget the whole thing.

You can still do a charge back on a closed credit card, get on to your bank ASAP. If the cheque is a sterling cheque it could cost a fair bit to lodge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 LipsyAddict

Ya it was only later on yesterday it dawned on me that it could be a sterling cheque even tho I was charged in Euros. I think I will contact the bank today as I really don't trust them even at this stage that a cheque will in fact be sent.

Such a hassle, I will never be going near this crowd again.

Hi Guys I sent all my details to Visa requesting chargeback, the item I ordered last November did not arrive but this week a package arrived from them and inside was a battery operated ear cleaner, I kid you not, I called them and spent so long on the phone that wont answer and emails that they wont answer I have given up on them they are a disgrace, like ye they could never find details of my credit car payment which they took last November or the order no that they gave to me by email so how the hell did the ear cleaner arrive.

Stay away from this crowd, I am only grateful that the item only cost 25 Euro I would crack up if I ordered an expensive item from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 LipsyAddict

I think it's disgraceful they can get away with this. Like I said I was told i'd get a cheque but the more i think about it i really don't believe them at all. I am going to call the bank i was with at the time and get their advise. If only i'd known this before I switched banks, I'll get their advise anyway and see what they advise. It is only €30 but it's the principle of it - I made 20 calls to them since beginning of December.

I have told everyone I know not to go near them, I just wish there was more I could do, I genuinely think they are defrauding people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,626 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

The best way to get to these guys are chargebacks and trust pilot. You just have to hope buyers google retailers before they buy.

Chargebacks cause headaches for retailers but they can try getting away with sending something, if you sign for it then its your word against theirs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 LipsyAddict

WEll I always know when I've ordered something so if a package arrives for me I'm refusing to take it. I am just utterly disgusted with the carry on and all the blatant lies i was told. I don't understand how they get away with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,121 ✭✭✭Storm 10

The worst thing about this is that I got their brochure in the RTE Guide, surely the Guide would check out a company to see what they are like before distributing it to thousands of buyers in Ireland who I am sure must be in the same boat as we are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 LipsyAddict

Ya the one I got was from the Sunday World, I had thought about contactig them on twitter or something but then I thought they'd just say it was nothing to do with them. Stopping them putting their brouchure in any magazine or paper should not be allowed. Someone told me that they think Shopathome have an add on RTE 1 in the mornings but I can't confirm that.

I contacted the bank and was told that shopathome credited my card after i told them it was closed, anyway the bank are going to send me a cheque. I am so delighted that after nearly 2 months this is over. It may seem like nothing to someone who it hasn't happened to but having to ring somewhere on a daily basis only to be fobbed off and lied to isn't nice in the slightest.

Chargebacks are a very effective way of getting your own back on a company for poor customer service as
    (a) they will be charged a fee by their clearing bank for the chargeback
and (b) if they have an excessive level of chargebacks then their credit card merchant account will be subject to monitoring which could result in actions ranging from monies due to them being delayed or withheld all the way up to their credit card facilities being withdrawn for repeated breeches.

Any legitmate company will try to avoid chargebacks.

How I wish I had seen this before I ordered and paid for my item on Sept 30th 2014..
They are still "out of stock".
Paid with Pay pal so the dispute time has elapsed.
Contacted my credit card company & they have told me to download a complaint form & fill it out. Could take 30 days to process.
What can I do to protect other people from this shifty shopping site?.

How I wish I had checked this before I ordered and paid for an item "not in stock" on Sept 30th. Still waiting for refund despite repeated assurances that it was being done. Paid with Pay pal so the dispute time has passed. Contacted my bank who advised downloading a form to fill out and it would be checked out in 30 days approx. Is there no protection from these people? They should be blacklisted.
What are chargebacks mentioned on this thread?

Well. They are up to their old tricks again. Joe Duffy just had one of their customers on the radio. She told a similar story to others above. I wouldn't do any business with them.

I ordered something from Shopathome.ie on December 8th as a Christmas present so I wasn't too pleased that I hadn't received anything by January 8th. I was charged on the day of my order and not when the goods were dispatched which I think is unacceptable. After spending long periods 'on hold' I was told that the item had been dispatched on Dec 16th and was with a courier company but that they were facing backlogs due to Christmas, Black Friday (?) and whatever. The implausibility of this led me to do an online search so I belatedly came across the helpful boards.ie thread on the topic.
Bottom line: if you are in a position to threaten a charge back this seems to be an effective approach. I mailed them saying I would initiate a charge back within three days if I didn't receive a refund to my credit card. I received a quick e-mail response and the credit appeared on my credit card account a few days later.

Publications simply cannot check every single advert and the compnay beind it. Usually it is placed by an agency who will always do it in good faith. The RTE guide is simply a commercial magazine publication like any other magazine.

I would be extremely concerned if I ordered something from a website and they did not carge until it was shipped unless I was 100% certain of their own security systems.

If a website charges on dispatch, then it means it is probably holding your card info somewhere. Whereas a website that deducts the minute you pourchase is probably using a secure third party gateway like realex and therefore the website itself does not have your card details (they can still do refunds by using a reverse/refund button on the third party secure gateway)

looks like the status of their company on solocheck is liquidation, so I'd say good luck getting anything from them!
