Sounds sensible enough maybe keep a log? Not gonna f up the rant thread by discussing your training here but you'd get decent enough advise if you started a log... Good luck anyways

In fairness, some of those fancy burgers that come in 5 or 6 different parts are so big that you'd need a head the size of an elephant to eat it with your hands.

Good threads being derailed off topic and eventually locked due to immature pointscoring and pedantic over analysis. The Fagan thread had a lot of different view points and all the genuine contributors, on both sides, had at least some merit in their respective arguments. Its unfortunate that those who are unable to debate the issue are also unable not to interfere with it. Some commas and other punctuation marks may have been sacrificed in the construction of this rant but you cant make an omelette etc...

Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid unwanted birthday cake in an office setting?

Not really training at the minute (thanks to my stuffed sinuses/aggravated man flu) so the last thing I want to do is stuff my face with the birthday cake of someone whom I'm neither dislike or particularly like (just a fairly standard work colleague) but don't want to make a big issue of it either (and seem like a weirdo...like Elaine in that episode of Seinfeld :D)

Where do you work? I'll stand outside your office window and you can pass the cake out to me and pretend you ate it.

Coffee cake? Sher that's a perfect excuse not to eat it. Coffee cake is a rant in itself tbh.

I know it's easy enough to do if you wanted to. But I didn't do anything outrageous on Sunday that would explain a 5-pound gain.

P.S. Despite what it might sound like, I'm not obsessed about my weight. Just confused.

I doubt you gained 5 lbs of fat. That would need you to consume about 20,000 calories in a day. So it is most likely water weight which will drop off over the next few days.
I was watching the boxing on saturday night. Guys who weighed in at 154lbs the night before the fight weighed over 170lbs just 24hrs later so gaining/dropping 5lbs overnight is not unusual.

Edit: sorry I thought this was on the weiightloss thread not the ranting thread :o

You ingested 5 + lbs of food and liquid, and expelled little. It can't go on any other way. Either that or your scales is acting up.
