Sounds great. Now to decide if I want to play with the Zelda pack or Mario and Luigi pack.

Nintendo have *gasp* acknowledged TVii in Europe

"We would like to apologise that we were unable to bring the Nintendo TVii service to Europe in 2013 as originally planned.
Please continue to keep an eye out for further announcements regarding this service in the near future"

It's been largely a flop in the US. Will be interesting to see what service, if any, they actually offer in the end.

They added that to their tvii infosite on the 2nd of january, or 3rd.
Pretty quick response, given on december 31st it read "more info in 2013".

I wouldn't call it a flop, they weren't trying to make it a hulu or netflix, just somewhere to bring hulu and netflix together. Can't succeed too much when they haven't sold spectacularly.

I thought I'd give the lego games a break for a while but after watching the trailer below I'm very tempted to pick it up one release day. Looks really good. They got some cast to do voice over.

    http://www.ie.wowhd.com/games/lego-movie-the-videogame-nintendo-wii-u/dp/36924815#bc=6e05

    €35 on wowhd seems fair.

I really enjoyed lego city undercover. Wonder will they allow gamepad play this time though. Was a pain not being able to play undercover on the gamepad.

    hey folks,

I'm going to be picking up a Wii U in the morning, funds being tight I can only stump up cash for the 8GB version. How much of a balls is having the smaller flash drive?

Not that much of a balls at all really as long as you have an external usb drive you can stick into it.

Welcome to the crew by the way, let us know what your NNID is when you get it fired up.

You wont get the charging stand with the 8gb.. not that big a deal but its nice to have. I have a spare one somewhere if i find it ill give it to you as a welcome present ;)

Yeah, the stands are a much nicer part of the 32GB than the disk space.
If you plan to download anything, get a hard drive, if not you should be fine. (That applies to both)

The 32GB does not go very far when it comes to download games. Assassin's Creed III alone is 21GB. You're better off to save your money and buy a hard drive.

HOWEVER, what you do miss out on (if you're planning on buying a lot of eShop titles) is the "premium pack" promotion that gives you €5 back for every €50 (not including VAT) you spend on the eShop through WiiU. Is that worth the extra alone? Depends on what you'll spend between now and christmas 2014 when the offer expires. eShop titles are normally ridiculously overpriced, being fixed at RRP for 1st party, and almost never below retail prices even when on sale for the 3rd party titles.

Personally I don't use the stand or charging cradle as I need to lock the gamepad in it's armour when I'm not directly supervising - damned kids! But now that the vWii can be used through the game-pad, you might get some use out of the stand if you're playing Twilight Princess in a corner of the front room by yourself.

Just powered on the Wii U, downloading the updates. So many, so slow. I've already played the Wii U beforehand though, so I'm just waiting on my copy of SM3DW to be delivered and I'll start cracking on it!

An Post can be extremely slowat times, so I wouldn't worry yet. I once got a refund from a seller on adverts because of a game not showing up after 3 weeks. 2 weeks after it arrived.

Dont know if some of you saw Iawata's comments earlier in the week, Article here via kotaku.

Essentially he says that Nintendo are reevaluating their business strategy, specifically to include "smart" devices its fuelling speculation that Nintendo simply cannot sustain the WiiU's awful sales figures and may have to abandon the platform and possibly hardware entirely.

I myself would hate to see Nintendo stop making handhelds as they have always been the best Mobile gaming experience around but I would love Mario et al on PS4 or XB1. I've been wanting a Wii U for some time, I'm starting to think I'm going to have to get on that bandwagon soon because it might not be available for all that long.

Wii U ain't goin anywhere any time soon. Lots of big titles coming in the coming 12 months that will sell more than enough to keep the console viable imo.

Lets not forget the GameCube was out for about 5 years and it didn't have great sales numbers vs it's competition.

The first year for the wii u was poor software wise but 2014 will be a great year to be a wii u owner.

Is there any sign of the tablet/GamePad being sold on its own yet and are there any games that need two tablets or that can use two tablets yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,711 ✭✭✭Nollog

Dualpixels are "reporting" a rumour that Nintendo plan to (in Japan at least) lower the prices of their software.

Seriously the Wii U's numbers are very poor, nothing like as good as the Game Cube and that nearly did for Nintendo as it was. Mario 3D World didn't make it into the Top 40 Games Chart in the UK over christmas and it is meant to be the Killer App for the System, that is shocking news. I'd be very worried for it's survival into 2015 if Nintendo do not do something drastic and change their approach radically. And who is to say if even that would be enough.

I love Nintendo and be devastated to see them stop producing hardware. on the other hand Zelda and Mario on PS4/XB1, that could be incredible.

The Wii U is gone from €249.99 to €327.99 in Argos, crazy prices.
    I knew I shouldn't have waited so long. :(

How did the Gamecube nearly do for Nintendo? They made a profit on every unit sold? They had never made a loss until the last 2 years.

It's still €249.99 in Smyths, or €279.99 for the Wind Waker bundle.
