I do, have 30+ donations of my O neg blood. I did it all these years just cos it was the right thing to do but a nurse recently said to me that I had saved at least 10 peoples lives if not closer to 15, will admit that hit me right in the feels!
That's nice but you can give blood so well dohe

    Used to give regularly but:

    Lived in tropics
Had blood transfusion in Kenya in 1972
Lived in area of Kilkenny with endemic jaundice (at the time)
Lived in UK briefly during 70s
    and finally...I am too old

Unfortunately, you are unable to give blood for 3 months after you return from a tropical country and for 12 months after you return from a malarial country.
    they won't let me :)

I am barred, I got a transfusion in the dodgy years. Used to give blood but then they changed their regulations and I got a letter telling me they didn't want to see me anymore!

I had glandular fever and I weigh less than 7st 12. Not sure if the glandular fever one would prevent me anymore having looked at the website, but I knew it used to before.

I have given blood a few times, however I often can't due to new piercings. That and I get really faint and sick so I was told not to bother because of how it affects me. I tried :(. I have O negative so would really like to be able to.

I like men. Even though I don't partake in what they call the high risk activities, they won't have it, so bar lying that I like women it's not possible. I suppose I am still a little sore about it but for the most part I've gotten over it, I only represent about 9% of the country but if they don't want my blood that's absolutely fine by me!

I always gave blood regularly since I was 18, but when I had my hip operation at 22 they did an autologous blood transfusion, so I used have to put that down on the form every time, then a couple of weeks ago when I went to donate I put down on the form that I'd had X-rays done on the hip recently, so they told me because it was part of ongoing medical treatment I couldn't donate.

It's ok anyway because every time I get the letter notifying me of the next clinic times, I get a text maybe the day before to say they have enough AB+ and please consider skipping this time and coming the next time, something like that :o

If you never had anal inter course with a man it's ok

No, they will still not allow it.

Their loss to be honest, I have an uncommon blood type and I'm clean, but they won't take mine - rules are rules...

I don't weigh enough. I'm a healthy weight for my size but just don't weigh enough for them! My iron can be pretty low too.

The rule is not having anal intercourse being gay doesn't disbar you, check the rules I gave 6 pints

Had 4 blood transfusions in 2011. I had given 4 times previous to that so we're even.

I've had malaria 3 times, the last time almost killed me. According to the rules in Germany, where I used to live I'm banned from blood donations for life. In Ireland it's OK.

Either way, I used to give it twice a year, stopped a few years back when I got malaria the first time.

I was born in Zambia so can never give blood.

The way I see it, I have two options, either to respect the fact that the welfare of the recipient is the most important thing, or go mincing around the place moaning and whining about discrimination and generally being a tosser.

I've opted for the former course of action.

Because the nurses in the blood donating centres in Madrid don't know that the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK. Even when I tell them, they don't believe me. I've been refused twice.

It's not just anal intercourse that rules you out, and if you've done either anal or oral even once, you're forever ruled out. Seems a little ott but so do a lot of the rules they have.
With effect from 7th November 2011, the following UK Blood Services: NHS Blood and Transplant, the Scottish Blood Transfusion Service and the Welsh Blood Transfusion Service changed the permanent exclusion of MSM from donating blood to a 12 month fixed period deferral from the most recent relevant sexual contact. This decision was made by the UK Health Ministers following advice received from the Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs (SABTO).

The IBTS has reviewed the report produced by SABTO, but has decided not to make a change to its current permanent exclusion of MSM. The Health Minister for Northern Ireland has recommended that no change is made to their permanent exclusion at present.
They don't really have a reason why not change this. It would rule me back in anyway.

That makes sense to me but that's not how it was explained to me a few years ago, at the time that would have meant I could have donated. She wasn't happy that I'd done oral (and fairly recently too). Maybe she was misinformed - I suppose it's a redundant argument for me at this stage since I've been quite sexually active since then.
