Paypal Issue

I have read the sticky... and this may have a very simple answer, but it's not obvious to me at the moment. (Also, for whatever reason, I cannot see the images in the sticky).

Anyway, I set up a paypal account today and I'm trying to top up my account but there is a slight hitch. I'm with Ulster Bank and to make a transfer, they need the sort code and account number, which is fine.

However, when I go to the Top Up My Account section, Paypal are not giving me a sort code/account number, they're giving me BIC and IBAN instead........

So, is there a correlation between BIC/IBAN and sort code/account no, or is there a way for me to make payments using those numbers via Ulster Bank?

I don't know the answer , but what I do know is that you don't need to top-up your Paypal account in order to make a payment ( If your bank account is visa debit or visa or mastercard )

You just pay for item using Paypal and the amount will come directly from your linked card .

It's default a/c no. and sort code for me, but there should be an option right beside the box to change from IBAN. You can't mix and match but you should still be able to find your IBAN on a statement or if you have online banking. Although, if you have a/c number there's a way to work out your IBAN, should be on your banks website somewhere, it's just an addition of extra id characters.

I'm fairly sure I don't have a visa debit bank account...

If I link my bank account for withdrawing money, does that work?

I know my own IBAN number and I know how to work out my account number from that, but I'm not so sure about the Paypal one.

And I don't see an option to change from IBAN, there isn't any box to tick at all as far as I can see.

Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious but I'm confused as of now.

When I go to 'My Account', 'Profile', 'Add/Edit Bank Account', 2 boxes appear, one for sort code, one for account number. Just to the right of that is enter IBAN or in the reverse, the link says enter number and code. Maybe they've made some changes to newer accounts?
If you have your IBAN though, you can just use that.

I am having the same problem as kc90. A pain in the hole! I'm going to call them now, I'll post their answer shortly.

Much easier and quicker to link debit card to Paypal.
If you are with Ulster you should have a visa debit card to use.

The account and sort code is included in the IBAN number that paypal provide you with when you go to top your account. For example, if you IBAC number is IE45 POPO 1234 5678 9101 11, the last 8 digits are the account number i.e. 78 9101 11 and the 6 preceding digits are the sort code i.e. 1234 56.

    I hope this helps

Didn't realise that was an option. Cheers

    The OP needs an IBAN;)

Paypal is asking for Iban, OP has a sort-code and an account number.
So he does need an IBAN.

No, PayPal are giving him the IBAN and BIC but on the Ulster Bank website you can only use a sort code and account number. I just had the same problem and if you read the following you may be able to get your head around it:

"they need the sort code and account number, which is fine."

"Paypal are not giving me a sort code/account number, they're giving me BIC and IBAN instead........"

So, he has the BIC and IBAN from PayPal but Ulster Bank need the sort code and account number. I don't understand the issue you have with this.
