    Interesting piece on Negredo .

    http://asliga.com/Article/Detail/9/are-you-wasting-your-budget-on-negredo

    awwhs8m.jpg
When Aguero picked up a hamstring injury in week 16, fantasy managers everywhere turned to Negredo as his replacement to keep some City coverage in their forward line. For the most part he has done the trick, except for gameweeks 19 and 20 where he only played 35 and 59 minutes respectively – And this is the problem.

Of all the strikers that could be considered “premium” Negredo has made the most appearances this season with 20, but he is only averaging 63.1 minutes per game. Unfortunately for Negredo, Aguero is the main man, and Pellegrini sees Negredo and Dzeko as interchangeable, like for like replacements. Aguero took only 50 seconds to announce his return from injury this week, coming on as a substitute and scoring against Blackburn. This means the ace is back in Manchester City’s deck of cards, and with the Sky Blues also competing in the FA Cup, Capital One Cup and the Champions League, the strikers are sure to be shuffled.

Negredo’s involvement stats reflect the fact he is not playing 90 minutes every week, and when you weight him up against other options such as Giroud or Lukaku, it’s hard to justify keeping him in your squad.

Negredo’s yearly ALI is 3.8, below Lukaku on 3.9 and Giroud on 4.3. Negredo has an average of 2.1 shots per game – Lukaku 2.2 and Giroud 2.7. Negredo has an average of 5.3 successful passes in the final third per game, - Lukaku 7.7 and Giroud 9.1. All three men have scored 9 goals this season, but Giroud and Lukaku have provided 5 assists a piece whilst Negredo has only come up with 4. Negredo has returned fantasy managers an average of 4.6 points per game, whilst Lukaku has managed 5.2 and Giroud 5.5.

When you look at statistics like this, and consider that the main men for Everton and Arsenal come well under Negredo’s price point of 9.9m (Lukaku – 8.8m and Giroud – 8.6m), and offer a near guarantee of 90 minutes every week, you have to start wondering why you’d waste that extra budget on the Spaniard.

Could Negredo bang in three goals against Cardiff this week? Absolutely. Unfortunately, if I’m going to spend nearly 10m on a player, the bare minimum I expect is for him to play 90 minutes every week. Fantasy Premier League is a marathon, not a sprint. I’m looking for long term, consistent rewards for a reasonable price and Negredo isn’t giving to me.

I couldn't decide between leaving in Negredo for this week and swapping out for Aguero after or just making the switch now

Instead I've got both and doubled up for the Cardiff game in the hope that it's a massacre.

Will drop Negredo next week when I play the WC

that article didn't tell me anything that many of us didn't already know.

the majority, I vouch, are holding Negredo for one more week in the hope that he starts one more.

he's not a premium FF striker. Aguero is patently City's number 1.

Sums up my last 2 months. And this week.

    Lol.

Need some selection advice on my defense please. Going with three at the back and the ones in bold below are my current selection. I keep second guessing my selections. I have Lallana and J-Rod playing against Mannone. And then I have Shaw selected as well. Is that too many eggs in the Southampton basket (especially with the events there this week)?

    Keepers:
    Mannone - SOU (H)
    McGregor - NOR (A)

    Defenders:
    Martin Olsson - HUL (H)
    Shaw - SUN (A)
    Sagna - FUL (H)
    Ward - STK (H)
    Chester - NOR (A)

I don't care what Aguero does this week, he was a blocker against my rival.

All eyes are on the differentials this week, of which Lukaku is number 1! If ever I needed him to work his magic it's now. I'll probably lose £0.1 on him tonight aswell. One goal in 8 games is not good enough for a striker at a club that are scoring goals. Luckily he's been picking up an assist every other game so we're scraping by, but a hat-trick would be more than welcome.

Anyone taking a punt on Gnabry this weekend?

I'm half considering downgraded Sterling to him to free up a bit of cash. Can't imagine Sterling will be banking many points any more given he's very hit-and-miss and he won't be doing much starting.

I'm tempted to stick with Negredo, even if he's not getting a full 90 every week. His record stands up to the others, will be a nice differential now that Aguero is back, and with the sheer amount of goals City are scoring, he's likely to continue with his returns, I'd say.

6-0-2-6-5-9-1-1-6, those are negredo's returns since december for anyone interested.

Yeah I think a lot of people are influenced by the Blackburn cup games (where he would likely have scored 7 and 11) and the West Ham cup game (where he would likely have scored 17)

I see Matic is in for Chelsea at 6.0. Any opinions one way or the other? I know Chelsea's midfield is a minefield at the best of times, but were he to play is he attack minded or more of a holding midfielder?

Absolutely, and it'd be foolish not to take them into consideration.

His returns are pretty good, enough to consider keeping him for at least one more game. I have a concern that Aguero will get limited time this weekend either by subbing off or coming on as a sub. Negredo will get more game time as he was taken off early for Aguero during the week. So for me it's Negredo for at least one more GW and then upgrade to Aguero once he is firing on all cylinders.

He's very much a defensive mid, wouldn't be great for fpl imo.

    Current team for this GW.
    Mignolet
    Baines - Mertesacker - Ward
    Lallana - Hazard - Silva - Wilshire
    Aguero - Suarez - Adebayor

    Good team except for Mignolet

Liverpool face Villa (H) - I'd fancy Mig's chances of a CS. I hope they concede though! I have Mannone and don't fancy his chances of keeping the Saints at bay. FutureGuy - Did you do Ozil, Toure, J-Rod for Lallana, Wilshere, Aguero?

You're a mad one for the points hits, almost 50 points in 7 weeks!

That's pretty severe even for me, but I'd be over 40 points further back had I not taken those hits - that's how bad my Christmas has been!

I took this hit with the intention of WCing this week - Aguero, Wilshire were rising last night and yaya was falling so it was a 0.3m swing. Almost certain I still will WC but I'd be happy enough to take that hit. Ozil looks jaded, Yaya will now be off penaties which reduces his appeal, and Rodriguez, who I like, has to be a sacrificial lamb for Aguero.

I have to make certain decisions to claw my way back. There are a few very strong differentials that I can jump on.

You should see my injury list over the last few weeks man. This is one of the first times I have thought about point hits for better players, not to get out injured players!

To Wild card or not, already used sub this week
    Team
    1. Szercerny
    2.Shawcross
    3.Evra
    4.Coleman
    5.Fernandinho
    6.Hazard
    7.Ozil
    8.Huddlestone
    9.Welbeck
    10.Rodriguez
    11.Suarez Capt

    Subs:
    Marshall,Whittingham, Turner, Demel

Evra is a doubt, whereas the Cardiff boys could get a lot of points against tempted by Mertisaker for Evra and take -4 and hold on to the wildcard for next week.

I'd personally think 3 from southampton is a bit much. Maybe Lallana to Ericsson or Jay Rod to someone equally affordable? Welbeck? Ade? Southampton's clean sheets should pick up after their difficult Christmas period. Getting Clyne in instead might save a bit of cash if you really needed it though, i reckon he's a bit better for attacking returns than Shaw too (though chambers could battle him for a place)

Lack of Everton defensive cover would be a bit of a worry as they're likely to get plenty more clean sheets this season.

In a somewhat against the grain move this week I will be bringing in Ozil...for Arteta :O

With Rooney confirmed out I either go with Aguero or Giroud for -4. That way I probably field 11 and may even have AJ as a sub. I hope Sterling plays or at the very least has a profitable 30 mins.

    Team for the week:

    Mignolet (H)

    Coleman(A)
    Terry(H)
    Chester(A)

    Yaya (H)
    Ozil(H)----Wilshere(H)----Sterling(H)

    Suarez(c)(H)
    Giroud(H)
    Negredo(H)

    McGregor, Lallana, Clyne, Vlaar

    Decisions for me are:
    - To start Sterling ahead of Lallana....Sturridge returning could result in a Sterling cameo for 20 mins.
    - To go with Chester or Clyne (currently siding with Chester).

Nice seeing 9 of your 11 playing at home mind.
