I agree, regardless of who is right or wrong that is not the way to address anyone on boards, especially in this sub-forum!

On a separate note, bearing in mind people pass the aptitude tests etc. I've been told by a Garda who claims he will be involved with the recruitment that family ties will definitely still have a bearing. Now I can't verify if he will actually be involved in the recruitment or not so pinch of salt, though he is a higher ranking member of AGS. That said, I don't see any reason why the chap would have lied to me. So perhaps reserves won't be the only ones with possible advantages along the way.

The point I am making itvthat Somerville havens distinct aadvantage either through natural ability or through contacts they may have or the experience theyhave gained

    I don't understand that.

The point I am making is that we all have to go through the same process.

I know your a reserve, but that's not a guarantee to getting the position. The Garda trainee class will not be 100% former reservists.

There are so many hurdles to fall at.

If you want to come on here and go to war with everyone then at least wait until you pass the aptitudes

Its not canvassing! You are asked on the background check form if you know any garda who would be willing to give u a reference. It was the same on the reserve form!

Just read 20,000 applied for the 300 jobs. 10,000 less than most people thought.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 640 ✭✭✭King Ludvig

I was surprised with the 20,000 figure also. Even with a last minute rush over the next two days it probably won't reach 25,000.

And how many of them applied before realising what the money was like etc. a lot of people just applied for the craic. Once they start thinking about the tests and filling out all the forms they might actually start to thinkif they really want it. That number will drop a lot. Saying that, there is still going to be a lot of competition either way

I'm shocked the number is so low considering the number of people unemployed and the number of people looking for a secure job. i'd say that number will fall big time when people actually read the small print so to speak..

I know of atleast 5 people who applied just for the craic..

Any joe soap I've briefly chatted with say 'oh Jesus don't b a guard' r 'one of the worst jobs out there'. Majority of the public would b of that opinion. Not gonna put me off applying though.

Also carzony whr did u read that about the 20,000 ppl applying?

Never said it was a sure thing for a reserve but the odds are stacked in their favour should they get through to the interview stage in the same way a senior members son or daughter will be given that tiny bit more consideration. Why???
A key criteria of the interview board will be to make judgment calls on which candidates will complete the training and graduate, it will be about the of investment of the training budget

That's right up there with "the money was only resting in my account"

Reserves who have approched senior members have clearly breached the conditions of the competition and I expect the senior members who they approched to document that at interview stage if the reserve get through the aptitude test! These are not the type of people needed in the Force. If they are corrupt going in well what damage will they do in the long run! They need to be weeded out!

Have a look at the background check form & see for yourself - you are asked to give a Gardas name & station, if you know one who would recommend you...

    That's nonsense.

If you think reserves have some huge advantage, or members of senior Gardais family then fair enough.

Or reserves will get through the training and others won't.

I'm sick of this discussion and I'm not going to say any more on it

Members of the reserve who have approched senior members have abused their positions, why did you not approch the member you go on the beat with every 4 hours a week! You have tried to infulence a senior member to gain an advantage. It will be senior members I presume who will be on the interview boards. This is Ireland at its best, I'll get up on my high horse when it comes to corruption. I hope this is highlighted in the media and taken up and investigated by the garda ombudsman!

what im getting at is theres no reason for anybody to approach anyone for a reference at the mo as theres nothing to be filled in or submitted

at the end of the day, senior management will be asked to supply reports on conduct and service of GRs for HR regardless. These reports maybe glowing or they may be damning

    we'll never know

and at the end of the day, anybody, regardless of GR or Civvy can put down ANY member of AGS on their form that they may wish and its not for you to comment on nor is it an abuse. its on the form so therefore is allowed and acceptable

you would want to be careful with your corruption claims my good man

From a poster who knows nothing about AGS or the reserve and has no interest in applying, just a troller

Which shows that the old saying applies more to you than any of the other posts.

Well if it mean that the Ombudsman staff are kept occupied investigating this alleged corruption rather than trying to build up conviction rates against Gardaí leave them at it

More nonsense. No reserve I know does a four hour shift. It proves your ignorance of the subject you are constantly commenting on. You are not a reserve so what exactly qualifies to comment. As for banging on about GSOC, grow up and submit some constructive posts.

Same old stuff from you Cruz nothing new if you were even applying I would give your comments some credence but you have stated your not so why waste serious posters time with such innate scribblings
