Criteria for appointment of PSCS

Hi, I have asked the HSA to clarify the appointment of PSCS, and they say when more that one contractor is employed on a job a PSCS must be appointed regardless of timeframe of the job. I asked them to explain more than one contractor and they havent got back to me. I would like to know if anyone can clarify this.

Does one main contractor with two subcontractors qualify as more than one contractor? It would be unuasual to have more than one main contractor on any one job, therefore when using sub-contractors a PSCS must be appointed in writing.

How do Architects make sure the PSCS is competent to carry out this role? Do they look for a qualification. I am assuming that not just anyone could carry out the duties for this role without some training in the area of Site Management or Health and Safety.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Architects don't need to...it's up to the employer/client to determine this. ;)

Sorry, I know that does not answer your query in any helpful or meaningful way!
