when i export the rig/model as a fbx into unity, I have the fbx file with the baked animation, and then i have fbx file with the rig and no animation, then when i select the non animation rig and go to use the rig - humanoid option in the inspector everything shows up green, but it only select uses bones as far as the knee's and ignores some other bones.

Hope you get it sorted. Sorry can't be of any help, have been using pre-rendered 3d so far.

If you mean the grey bones, there is a way to change them to green, unfortunately I don't remember the process..
I think it might be in the panel on the right where you target bones for different body parts.
There are mecanim tutorials, in which I have seen this issue addressed.

Are you trying to use an avatar from another rigged model with animations to switch over to this current model? Or does it have its own animations and rig?
I have been using mixamo.com to rig low poly characters(free under a certain poly count) and using those to hold animations or to animate in another program, with ofc high poly normals/diffuse from mudbox or similar.

If its already rigged and has animations, I believe its beter to use generic setting in the rig tab of the inspector and open an array list for your animations on that object.
Then using code to initiate animations.
I'm still figuring out mecanim myself.
Hope you can keep us updated on this issue and good luck :)

It is actually rigged the model and the animation are baked on it, but it was just the tutorials i saw for it all used that humanoid rigging option. But thank you for the informative post i shall try have a look at that generic setting and see if i can get some thing working. yay.

Also i feel i may have taken this topic off topic or derailed it some how i shall stop posting my probs here thanks for the help !
