Gay Byrne is probably a frustrated man now, people in their twenties who probably statistically have most accidents, have no idea who he is.
Time for a new face there I think, someone that these young drivers recognize and respect.

Byrne's comments are being misreported. He laid the blame firmly at the door of garda management, for not putting enough resources on the road.

Traffic corps can only deal with what they can see going on in front of them - they cant deal with some nutcase pulling off a dangerous overtake - a mile behind or ahead of the traffic corps car.

Think one thing that could be done in the line of traffic corps in that regard - is to have decent unmarked cars - preferably stuff that wouldn't normally be associated with Garda cars (Audis etc).

I only mention Audi as an example - but having unmarked cars could be good - drivers wouldn't know that the car behind them or in front was a Garda car until they are pulled in for driving like a muppet.

Is Traffic's Volvo repaired yet after the Dame St incident, that's as unmarked as you can get? Even see new and old Mondeos with very little evidence on the outside and of course the Skoda Superbs / Land Cruisers / Audis BMW's .... There's a lot of stuff available depending on what the powers that be approve - internal politics/requirments

Aside from the 'Speed kills' mantra, I'm sure the Collision Investigation boys would have views on what ACTUALLY caused the accident. Sometimes it can be road surface problems / road markings / signage / people texting /using computer etc etc.....

Yes, the majority were probably speeding without a seat belt but we need to move on from just 'Speed kills' and outline exactly what other elements can get you killed.

As for Gaybo - he nearly crashed into me one day so ...:rolleyes: Yesterday's man

The new unmarked mondeos/focus are done very well, seen a few 131 mondeos with just grille lights,no dashlight

What about the little tetra aerials? The non existing insurance/ nct certs, the D reg without the usual garage reg plate holder?

There's the triple holder in the windshield that looks the same from 100m, some even have 'insurance' and 'NCT certs' in them - tho' what reg. no's. are on them is anybody's guess :rolleyes:
As for garage surrounds, Finglas Motors Ford seem to be giving them free with every Garda service even if it's not a Ford

I think a lot of people are not getting the correct message when they hear 'speed kills'. I think people think of excessive speed as being over the speed limit which is not entirely true. Excessive speed can be below the posted speed limit but excessive for the road/weather conditions, traffic congestion (be it vehicles or pedestrians etc) and other specific conditions. Hell you can travel around a 45 degree bend well below the speed limit but too fast to take the bend and still kill yourself or someone else.

Sorry for slightly going off topic but, would it not have been easier for the court case to be held in the prison, instead of utilising all of these resources on a toe rag?

They both look to be identical to the general one that came with the Avensis', so they both have rear reds I'd assume.
