Drivers like this

Coming back from my parents on Christmas day at 3pm (wanted to leave before dark) with my wife and new baby.
Got off M50 motorway J15 onto Cornelscourt hill road. Noticed a CN reg car suddenly right behind me. (Wasn't there when I exited motorway) On my bumper. I have "baby on board" sign on the rear window and my wife was in back too. This guy was 2 or 3ft from my bumper when it's clear I can't move over or pull in etc. I was driving at the speed limit and this guy was behind me less than 20 seconds, I'm certain, so no reason for him to be driving like this. I immediately decided to get out of this persons way as early as possible. 50m ahead is a small single lane roundabout. I indicate right to go around it to let him go on straight ahead, but this toolshed races by me the wrong way (counter clockwise) on the roundabout and misses me by 1or 2 feet as I was turning.
Why. I mean seriously. At times like that I feel quite angry. If I was on my own I'd have followed him to get full reg. Mind you, if I was on my own I'd not have been half as bothered as I was with my baby on board.
I hope he is proud. He is just a statistic in the making. I just hope he doesn't take out a young family in his actions.
Ahhhh... That's better. Chest lighter. Merry Christmas.

Some drivers are dickheads. Maybe they were rushing to a hospital though or there was some kind of emergency and they really had to get past you?
You don't know their situation and having a baby on board sign as an indicator that someone shouldn't drive like that is silly, they're going to drive whatever way they're going to drive and no signs will change that.

saying you'd go after them to get the reg makes no sense, you weren't harmed and don't know why they were speeding or driving dangerously, live and let live.

The baby on board signs are only for emergency crews so they'll know there's a baby in the car if it was mangled up in a crash. It's not there to make other drivers fall over themselves in awe of your baby and go gooooo goooo who da lil baby in the car :P ur sooooo cute yes you are! yes you are! :P So yeah, it's not that.

You probably should but I think emergency crews would know to check the rear seats anyway so the signs are just a silly novelty.

I used to think they were the most pointless things in the world but this makes perfect sense. Thank you

What size is the baby on board sticker?
Is it big enough? Are you sure they could see it?
Maybe duct tape the baby to the roof next time to ensure we all know.

Surely the emergency services would think up a more professional method of indicating that there's a child in the car. I very much doubt that they've outscourced this job to Eurosaver shops selling cheap nasty stickers.

I think emergency crews know how to do their jobs without novelty "hey other drivers I might be distracted by loud screaming/being thrown up on/etc so keep your distance" signs :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,147 ✭✭✭PizzamanIRL

You should tie the baby seat outside on the roof of the car.

Then they'll have to notice it!

    They have. It's called "checking".

    I don't trust anything that isn't Wiki.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_on_board

I refer you to the opening chapter. It became a fad, ergo the goo goo gaa gaa relevance of it is no longer.

Now kindly give me a few minutes (I'm tipsy) and I'll find a link to where emergency crews saw the sign and realised there was a baby in the car.

and if i find it I win and I'm great. :D

Yeah the first line of which says:

"Baby on board is the message of a small (usually five-inch) sign intended to be placed in the back window of an automobile to encourage safe driving. "

It's not that, it's if they don't find the baby straight away they might think there isn't one. The sign is a help is all.
