Ok, but all I did was follow your instructions from earlier in the thread. I need to read more closely :)

Having not played before the server upgrade, is this a new map or should I wait until the map gets refreshed before investing time in this ?

'does installing Optifine fix anything for you? I'm sure there are some java perams you can set to fix it, but I'll have to google some more

dunno, i'd never heard of optifine! installing it now :)

    na still won't open :(

Does vanilla (non-FTB) Minecraft run ?

Setting render distance to 'fast' in the options would give the game the best chance of running on a 32bit machine I've found. It probably won't solve your problem but you may be able to play for longer and if so it could give you a clue as to the issue.

Remember to delete the %appdata%/.minecraft folder when doing a full reinstall.

I needed to set more RAM to get it work without crashing after a few seconds.

Any of the fixes on this site any help?
    http://www.minecrafthasrunoutofmemory.com/fixes/

For example, try the command line option to allocate 2GB to Minecraft (if you haven't already).

Splinter, when I had my old rig, updating LWJGL helped a fair bit. I'm not sure whar version they use on 1.6.4, but back with 1.4.7 it really helped. Also, though it may be a huge hassle, I set up an Ubuntu partition on my hard drive, and an FTB from that, and it was much better. Linux is much lighter to run than Windows, and therefore your system isn't spread too thin. Maybe someone with a bit more technical knowledge can tell you if this makes sense, but that was my experience anyway. Hope it works out mate!

This is a genius idea! I didn't even think of it! My dekstop could possibly run FTB better then both laptops, except for the processor (And the ram, but if I can easily upgrade that) so thinning out the machine would make a big difference!

As far as I remember though, installing java on Linux was a pain in the ass though.

been trying this command line /.bat file one but i'm a bit confused. should i be renaming the .exe in the file?

    “C:\Windows\System32\javaw.exe” -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar “Minecraft.exe”
    into
    “C:\Windows\System32\javaw.exe” -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar “FTB.exe”

Nah Snipe. Java on Ubuntu was a breeze. Linux just uses packages that you select from the Ubtuntu Software Centre, which makes it very easy to install multiple versions. When you run FTB, from the way I remember, you right click and select the application you want to open the package with (I think it was a .jar file, but that could be incorrect). It was very much the same kind of mechanic as the Windows 'Open With...' function. The biggest challenge was figuring out the layout and file locations on Linux, because it is different form the Windows approach.

This was a very old machine: Intel Core 2 Duo (I don't remember the clock speed), Intel 945GM graphics, 2 Gb Ram (though it was 32 bit, so that was a non-issue). True, all setting were way down, LWJGL was updated manually and I used optifine to tone down graphics even further. But it was fairly playable. The only time I had issues was at the spawn village, all the animals caused massive frame-rate drops. But once I got out in the open with not much to render, it wasn't bad.

You wouldn't rename the file you downloaded, just change the relevant (the last) parameter in the command to point to where you put the launcher. I think that's what you meant.

For example, on my system (Debian 64-bit) the command is
    java -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar ~/Downloads/Minecraft/FTB_Launcher.jar
because I saved the launcher as ~/Downloads/Minecraft/FTB_Launcher.jar

IIRC, on Windows you can usually just say "java" too, if Java is properly installed. That's what that site says and what I remembered. Try opening a command prompt and typing "java -version", which is a quick "is it working?" check. Do you get an error? If it works, you don't need any more than that in the first part.

I think I crashed the server.. by doing nothing.. D:

Also, Bull, I may have a solution to the MFR Slime problem, they aren't giving out essence after they split (They only give 100 now rather then 100 for each one of them killed) which means it can't be famed indefinatley which is a shame.

And I don't have the ability to divide by diamond to create the tainted earth.. but I do have an idea still ;)

Edit: And I tried using a vanilla spawner and my christ.. xD

I hope the server is back up tonight & tomorrow: I'm "working" then, by which I mean that I'm in the office, but there won't be much to do except to go virtual mining.

Does anyone know the name of the block that emmits an analog redstone signal based on the number of mobs?

I've an idea for a build I wanna try, and I'm gonna test it in creative first (The build is vanilla but its use isn't) so I'm looking at making an easier way to do it with all the redstone mods.

Also, does Chickenbones wireless redstone emmit across dimensions? ie, if its triggered in the nether will it trigger something in the over world, if both areas are loaded?

Heya I have basically no internet access, so if the server goes down again I probably can't fix it for a few days. Happy Christmas everyone.

    Try Mob Counter.

    Server is up, BTW.
