Stupid ban, not that it effects me as I don't go to Trinity. But the thread just caught my eye and was wondering if it was just the product Coca-Cola that was banned or all of the companies products.....Sprite, Fanta, Lilt, Powerade etc?

Also when campaigning for things like this, aren't the SU supposed to be creating awareness to get people behind them to support their cause? By banning a product like Coke, all they are doing is annoying a very high percentage of the college as most Irish people drink it over Pepsi and other competing products. So basically, with their "great" anti-gay exposure campaign, they will create the opposite of what they hoped. Shooting themselves in the foot twice, as others have stated, also losing revenue for the SU shop

Visa is a global partner too. Why not ban anyone from using their Visa debit&credit cards to make purchases? (most of the Irish banks use Visa debit cards)

GE and Dow are on there too. Why don't we just ban all modern conveniences, medical systems, aviation, and loads of other nice things.

Panasonic and Samsumg. No more consumer electronics for you.

    Selective banning is convenient

It's an easy way to be seen to be doing something. How else could they add the "Protesting and campaigning for and championing social change as a student" line to their CV.

Like I said, they're great for posturing and wasting resources and little else.

How about instead of banning coke products, we actually get decent water fountains. Do you know how long it takes to fill a water bottle in the arts block/Hamilton?

You obviously have never used the ones in the Lloyd building if you think those ones are bad

I understand that this motion had a direct influence on the decision of the Russian government to offer the recent amnesty to various prisoners including Pussy Riot.

I think this is a good example of an absolutely pointless action by the SU which they see as their job to do whereas more mundane things that would actually improve a student's daily life at the college like proper water fountains/ working printers/ later library closing times they tend to view as being beneath them/ not worth putting on the CV.
