UPC problem -- Moving house

    Hi all,

    I am under a 12month contract still and I'll be moving house.

    I called UPC today to inform them of this so they can stop charging me when I move out Dec 12, but they told me there is a €200(!) cancellation fee.

    An option they gave me is to move it to a new address, whereby I'll have to take on a 12-month renewal - not a problem. Only thing is, they want me to do this now, where I just want to hold the service and stop being charged for a month for the time where I'm in between places and won't be using their service. I also haven't the address of my new place yet.

    Have you guys been thru this? Are there any negotiation tips?

    They have to provide a service to an address in order to charge you. Why not just leave the service on your current property until you are ready to move it to the new property? Then there will be no break in the contract...

    There is a €200 cancellation fee.... which frankly I think is a robbery!

    Just take the hit on the month.

    Assuming that there is a UPC connection in the new address, you should be able to plug your box in and it will work.

    I received a letter today from UPC saying they are raising their prices and thus changing the contract. You should be able to opt out due to this change.

    Call them up and mention it.
