Howiye lads - thought I'd give a little update on the starting issue I've been having with the C5. After I got the fuel sender replaced in the tank, the issue remained the same and anytime I got close to the reserve, it got harder to start and this is not good on these cold mornings with a pregnant missus so I brought it to my OH uncle who owns a garage in the city (Citroen mechanic too) who had his head melted all day, working with a diesel mechanic and calling Citroen.

They looked over everything in the car, the sender is not the issue (it's not a pump, more of a a relay), the injectors are fine (pfew) pressure is fine - what the believe the issue is (not electrical, definitely mechanical so no ODB errors) is a tiny crack along the fuel lines at some point but it's very hard to find because there are no fuel leaks. The believe it may not only be the fuel filter but the housing off it too that was poorly fitted or has a bad seal / hairline crack (possible dropped during a service) so a new one is on order so my car will be completely bleed of air and redone. He also told me I should never have to touch that priming pump, let alone 5 times in the last month. One other issue may be the one-way valve in the pipes from tank up to engine bay just before the pump but again, difficult to test since the issue is so intermittent. Other than that, once she's started - she drives beautifully but MPG is taking a hit (I'm averaging 38MPG with 50/50 town and M2 driving) but then again, I have a heavy foot because I went from zero torque in the GP to loads in the C5.

    More updates Friday :)

Well thats a pain in the arse.... Is there enough power getting to the pump? Maybe a bad earth?

    Congrats btw! :D

Quick question: What's the Subaru Impreza (2006) with the 2.0 non-turbo engine like? I see that it's quite alright in terms of performance, fuel economy isn't the greatest (boxer engine after all), but are these reliable??

Cheers dude, 27 weeks and flying in!

That's the odd thing, because nothing is electrically is faulty / broken to get this to cough up an error so it's definitely seems to be a mechanical issue - of course though, the pump was tested and is performing normally as expected but when being started, it does feel like a big air gap and then a flood of fuel hits then engine and she's off (and then no issues when driving, no cut outs or loss of power). It's like a dry cough for 3 seconds and then the diesel arrives. Can't imagine the air locks I could have with having to prime the pump on top of this issue.

Sticking to at least 50% fuel from Texaco only as well to narrow it all down and make it easier for it to start. Am I right in saying the car wouldn't go anywhere if the fuel pump wasn't working as described, would it cut out if that was the issue?

Boy did ESP save my arse this morning. Coming around a bend and mid way through find someone has dumped a load of oil on the already cold road. Cue the back end breaking for freedom, but before I could try to counteract it the car pulled the brake on the rear left and the whole thing rather gracefully squared back up. Wonderful.

I had some fun with the handbrake today :D

Heh, it's a lot more fun when you're at it intentionally, not so much when you're already taking it handy.

Had a similar situation a few weeks back.

Came round a bend to a junction with the old N4 outside enfield. It was a wet morning and the roads were pretty greasy and not to mention the diesel slick which was hiding round the bend.

Tried braking and slow for the junction but the pedal went to the floor and the ABS kicks in. Just stopped at the junction line. Bit of a brown trousers moment but thank god for ABS :pac:

Ohh dear. I think the starter motor has given up the ghost in the C5. Crap. Recon one is about 170 and a new one is about 340. Since when are starters so expensive? Made worse as they're a pig to get out.

It's due a set of front tyres, a service and overdue a timing belt change and now a fecking starter. May leave it off the road for a while now cos there is near a grands worth of work needed to it. After christmas...

Rocker cover gasket has failed again :(

Did it about a year ago, maybe more and knew I didn't do it right, I don't think I let it sit for long enough before starting the car to be honest. So I'll have to do that again.

Car's leaking some oil at the moment, I think the recent cold has brought it on tbh, but it'll have to be done. The job isn't too technical, its more that it'll take around 3 hours. Ah well...anyone have a garage in south dub for me?!

Aye, the activa isn't far off that age now.

But that's going to be your biggest problem all right, lots of places wont even entertain you once it's older than 20.

Classic insurance out of the question? You'd need a primary policy.

...just realised today that I hadn't 'seen/heard' anything from Nissan Doctor in ages: I see he closed his account - did I miss a brouhaha ? - I always valued his posts tbh.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Insuring an MX5 at your age was never going to be fun. Add to the fact that it's an import and that it's the older model, you're pretty much screwed unfortunately.

1900 quid for the 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.0 RX for me...

I've tried that but I keep getting told I'm too young. Need to be 25 and I'm only 23.
I find it mental that come my 25th birthday I will miraculously become a low risk driver. Crazy!

I only started driving at 21 so I never got to hit that mile stone of cheaper insurance. :p
To think I could have 6 year NCB at this stage if I hadn't forgotten my ID when I first went to do my theory test... Just never went back and did it after that. Stupid! :(

To think I'd have 3 years NCB now if I bought a car when I was 17
Only 3 years Named Driver Experience for me :(

Still, 1900 quid for an Impreza and 2100 quid for a 525i ain't too bad :D

So it's starting the car is the issue has it ever cutout when it runs low ? Also if you keep it full with diesel do you have any problem? How low does it actually go before its hard to start?

That reminds me, I completely forgot to mention that I met a Nismo Juke on the road in the states. They certainly look different on the road, but it turns out the prodcution model only got a 1.6 T, and not the GTR running gear

Found one much closer to home (in the UK) a few months back. Looked good in fairness!

Never once has it cut out on me, seems to take longer to start when fuel is lower but there's no set / defined point at when it gets difficult, it has not started at 3/4 full.
