Spare CPU fan uses

    I just upgraded from stock heatsink and fan on my AMD A10-6800K.
    Any suggestions of practical or even not-so-practical uses for the old cpu fan and or heatsink?

    Just hold onto it and leave it somewhere safe - you'll never know when you need it.
    Your new cooler could die, get broken, get noisy, etc etc.

    Always good to have a spare :)

    Thats true.
    I was thinking of using it to as HDD cooler but only if I can get it to run at 50%.
    Its too loud at 100%.

    Fan speed controllers are really cheap. I got this one:

    It's really cheap feeling but I've been using it for over a year with no problems. I stored it in a 2.5inch bay on the front of my PC on my old build, and it looks ok with the blue LED's. Now I have it stored in a hard drive bay and its only use is the controlling of the fans, completely invisible to the outside. Works a treat, I have all my case fans at about 75% so they are quiet and still pushing a lot of air.
