JSA and Dependent

I am on JSA and living alone. My step son wants to stay with me . He is a student and has a part time job of 8K per year . I called the welfare and they said they would reduce my allowance if he lives with me. In reality he would cost me more on electricity and heating !
What mystifies me is that if he were on JSA at 100 euro per week 20 euro more than his job my allowance would not be cut. ??

Not clear on why your SW would be cut, unless you are presently in receipt of the Living Alone Increase? http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/extra_social_welfare_benefits/living_alone_allowance.html

Could be as he's not your actual child dependant, they could be considering your cohabiting ?

I am under 66 years so the living alone does not apply.

The fact he is a step son and I am separated may have an influence .I know they will try and avoid payment . The usual tactic is to refuse and delay an appeal for 3 months + .
