JDM cars do not generally receive the same rustproofing in the factory as Europe bound models.
While that is true with most Jap cars, Mazda on the other hand seem to have equally poor corrosion protection on their European and American models.

Lads, absolutely no one cares anymore about rusty Mazdas. Move on.

Johnboy, not everyone wants to drive the most economical, reliable and rust free bland box on the road. For the most part motoring enthusiasts drive cars for the way they drive. If you don't that's just fine but please please please stop beating people to sh!t about it.

:confused:What are you on about? What "blandbox" are you on about? Who am I "beating" "to sh!t about it"?

The last time I checked I informed a poster of the mx5s rust issues. Then another poster argued against this to which I replied to try and get my point across.

There was no "beating on my behalf".

Maybe you should read back further before posting silly nonsense.

I'm not just talking about this time, You can be very forceful with your opinions about cars. Often you have facts to back them up and that's great. A lot of people don't care if a car rusts, or their head gasket blows all the time. I would rather drive a car that has fantastic power, handling etc but breaks down every 200km and needs new floorpans welded in every time after driving in the rain than something that'll always get me there that I would feel the need to crash just for some entertainment.

The thing is though, I posted a link to a fellow poster about not just a rust issue but a potential safety issue. I had left it at that until another poster argued against my point.

Im sorry if it comes across to you as being "forceful" but if I feel I am correct I will argue the point. If Im proven wrong I will gladly own up and apologize.

I didn't tell anyone to go out and buy a "blandbox" instead, nor did I tell anyone that a Corolla or Civic was a better car to drive or anything like that. I was arguing the point posted by another poster about the rust protection of those two cars.

If you read back you will see I recommended an s2000 over an mx5. I know these cars are a good bit more expensive to buy compared to a 5 but Imo they are much better car.

Again apologies if I came across as being forceful.:)

OK Fair point. Just whatever way I read your posts it sounds like you're talking down a lot of cars and basically calling them sh!te. Now that I've had a bit of dinner and a rest, reading back I was a bit harsh/out of line earlier, long day :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,291 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Without going too off topic, that's based on stats by a third party warranty company, ie based on experiences of owners who bought a warranty for a car. Saxos are old, who's really gonna buy a warranty for one?
Its not representative of actual normal average cars.
Its also weighted on cost of repairs.
The youngest citroen saxo is 10 years old.

    No problem. :)

Tbh im not calling the mx5 a sh1t car. the mx5 is far from a bad car, Im not arguing that. It handles and drives very well and is very reliable. It has many great qualities.

My point is that, even though they are great cars and great fun, their tendency to develop dangerous structural corrosion makes many of them unjustifiable as a good second hand purchases these days.
