This renault carculator is mad. FOr my avensis it says I will need 4 tyres and that Dunlops are 392 for 4. Michelins will be 420 so this seems steep.
Servicing 1150. They include changing the timing belt even though i have a timing chain at a cost of 500 and aparently I will need new brakes and a service costing 250 and 200 of suspension repairs.
    360 for mechanical faults
    1894 on fuel and
    155 for an NCT.
I think they think my avensis is as unreliable as a renault.

I think at some point the mk 1 9 5 earned a 4 star N cap rating - don't think the earlier 9 5s were 4 star though - they upgraded them at some point iirc.

When the Saab 9-5 was originally tested by Euro NCAP, it was the safest car ever tested

It got 4 stars and the highest ever score

In 2003, the car was fitted with one of those annoying chime yokes that keep sounding when the front passengers don't buckle up. For that brilliant improvement in safety, the car was one of the first cars to be awarded with Euro NCAP 5 starts

Edit: I must fire up the laptop with the BMW software one of these days to code out that annoying chime in my E60 :)

Just like me and the 406's so. Would have been great to have one a few years back but they were too expensive for me at the time. Now they look quite outdated :( meh....

    NCT Till June, 1175

    Taxed till March

Ha I remember this load of crap! Linky

I had lots of fun with it. Turns out an old tractor is the only yoke I have thats more efficient than a new Renault :pac:

Should probably wrap this thread up, Renault have a new site that shows how much these cars truly cost to run...

Head over to http://www.carculator.ie and put in a reg.

Har, that thing is a joke, NCT costs me €155 per year, servicing €950 per year, tyres €392 per year, and mechanical faults €420 per year. That's a total of €1817 if I've done my sums right. Where are they getting €155 for NCT and who changes tyres every year on 10k miles?

I'd say between all three over the past two years, it's cost me that or less in total.

Edit: Just saw they are trying to persuade me to buy a renault, nuff said :D

It'll cost me 3382 a year to maintain my 1.4 Grande Punto apparently .... Jesus I know it's a Fiat but give me a break lads. Damn French...

Ahhh right - knew that there was a change in the 9 5s Ncap rating at some point - thought its final rating was a 4 - so it actually went from 4 to 5 - awesome stuff.

I believe the Volvo S40 was the first car to achieve a 4 star rating at Ncap - but that's was probably tested before the 9 5.

What GM chassis is under the 9 5 - I know the NG 900/Mk 1 9 3 was based on the 1988 Vectra chassis (Vectra A).

Thought the 9 5 was on a version of the same chassis - if so - that was an incrediable achievement by Saab to bring that car to 5 star rating.

To put it into perspective - the much newer Jag XF still only achieves a 4 star rating.

So there we have it - Monday mornings bangernomics lesson - one can have Ncap test high performance, leather and all the toys for small money :D.

And not a Renault carculator in sight ;)

Sorry for the giddy over excited nature of the last post.

I like older cheaper cars - and it does get me all over animated when someone like Renault and others try to make out that running older cars has to be such a bad thing.

id argue differently - the safety advances that have occoured over time are now filtering down over time to the cheaper end of the market.

For example - the Mk 2 Saab 9 3 mightn't be classed as the most amazing car ever - but ive seen pics of one which was struck by a truck on the motorway - and ended up inside in a field - (on its roof from memory) - and the car held up exceptionally well.

Id even argue the case that if you exclude the obvious heaps out of the equation - like 2 litre Mazda 6 diesels - buying older cars can even be safer. If you get caught with a lemon - then life is far less of a ballache when said lemon cost only a grand in the first place.

Plus when you get to this age - theres plenty of knowledge out there on which are the disasters of car to avoid - like that Mazda diesel - and which are the cars which can be okay if bought carefully (Saab 9 5) - and the ones which are hidden gems on the market (406 HDis in immaculate condition - when they can be got)

    That calculator is a joke.
I don't need a timing belt. My tyres are fine.
Routine servicing of a grand....yeah right, maybe at your main dealer prices.

Oh and does renault offer a car that gives the same driving experience as an alfa v6. NO

Not to mention the depreciation on your new renault. They don't even mention the cost to buy.

Ill stick to my trust busso

To be honest after using the carculator, I wont be buying a renault. That is false advertising at its worst.

Just because you don't need a timing belt or tyres this year doesn't mean you won't need them next year. If your change your tyres every 2 years and they cost €600 for argument sake, thats an annual cost of €300. Would imagine thats the way the site is or certainly should be working.

I'm not endorsing the site by any means though as it would appear flawed to say the least. Annual cost of €925 for routine servicing and €450 for mechanical faults for my ubber reliable 1.6 toyota is just downright incorrect. Also €155 for NCT? Last time I checked it was €55 to do an NCT. If they are including the cost of focusing lights or balancing here then I would be of the opinion that it should be included in the routine servicing cost. Not that I'd want to change my 1.6 petrol Toyota for a dodgy 1.5 Renault powered by the devils juice in any event.

They don't give a breakdown of the annual costs for the Renault either.

Timing belt is every 4 years or 50k miles on the v6 (alfa still say 72 and 5 years but i aint risking that) and it was done in february. It costs 700 to do the belt and spread over 4 years works out at 175 per year.
However there method of calculation takes it that its going to cost me 1k in essential servicing every year, by saying that the belt will need to be done every year.

Low millege(if legit) and long test though.

€1,500 tops but the 6 is a lovely car.

Just had another look at that Carculator thing using the 2008 Citroen C5 I have instead of the S60.... it's absolute bolloxology

-€155 a year for NCT, firstly, it's not due testing till next year, secondly they claim "it would be safe to assume an additional €100 in pre-NCT repairs to ensure it passes" Get ta f*ck, would that not be included in the over-priced maintenance they're also including???

-Diesel is being calculated at 156.39. Current average is 147.9 as per pumps.ie, I haven't paid over 1.50/litre is the last 6 weeks.

-1075/annum on servicing. Riiight. Main dealer full service was 260 (and that included a few extra bits...timing belt (which Renault have factored in an annual cost  isn't due until 240000km, or about 5 years at current mileage.

...and apparently a Fluence is a replacement for a C5.

I reckon 1500(Quoted price is 1650) would make a nice Bangernomics with a year NCT.

Fair enough man. Not saying their actual figures are correct because they are appear grossly flawed to say the very least. Point I was merely making was that there is an annual cost attributable to tyres, timing belt etc. Just because you don't change them this year does not mean you don't include them in calculating your annual running costs.

I'm generally not a major VW fan but for those in the market for a Golf GTI up around the Donegal direction this is surely worth a look. NCT for a year and 2 months and 120k miles were told

Nice spot. Just goes to show why its not a good idea to advertise a car on adverts. He has it priced at €950. Somebody put in an offer of €650. Then 8 minutes later somebody comes along and offers €600 despite the offer of €650.

I could nearly foresee the way it will go over the next while. Somebody will come along and put in an offer of €1,000 only to never be heard off again. Then some toss pot will come along and make an offer of €50, a pre used copy of GTA 5 and 20 silk cut purple
