It probably wouldn't, as you would need it to control both the boiler and the central heating.

My query also - have a 24-hour pin-punch dial on my boiler....I could set the boiler on constant and use this on the mains cable immediately after the isolation switched?!

never break the mains supply to a boiler , it has a separate switched live for time control -
you would be bypassing all the safety features by switching the live feed - dangerous
