That's pretty much what the Nazis thought about the Roma too so I think the comparisons are apt.

Is it considered rascism to tell the truth. the vast majority of the community are involved in crime

I don't think anyone here is suggesting gasing/torturing members of the Roma community.

I think people need to calm the f**k down though; there's no actual solid evidence that they've been going around snatching people's babies to sell them into human trafficking. If this transpires to be the case, then we work out a strategy to deal with it and bring the perpetrators to justice.

I didn't use the word racism so I don't understand your question; unless that's just an excuse to educate all of us on the "truth".

Given Ireland's position in WW2 I wouldn't expect many Guards/ HSE workers to know anything about this, but they should.

The was a programme on BBC r4 PM last year about the Roma and the Roma they interviewed openly admitted to selling their daughters into the sex trade quite shocking

Well then I guess you dont live close enough to anywhere in this country where your day is not invaded by their begging, where every conversation you try to have outside a bar or cafe is not bludgeoned to death by them or had them try to stick their theiving hands into your partners handbag,
I live in Dublin and this does not happen to me on a daily basis, I must be an exception though because I assume you cannot be completely exaggerating what you're saying.

Whens the last time you were drinking in town? if you're a smoker and you frequent pubs in the city centre you will be asked for money every 2 minutes

I work in the city centre and the only times I'm approached by people asking for money, it's either chuggers or people with strong Dublin accents.

I worked in the heart of the city for 2 years in a job which required a lot of outside activity and I have to say, I was rarely approached by anyone aggressively begging, Irish or otherwise.

A couple of weeks ago and nobody asked me for money. Apart from chuggers, the last time someone asked me for money was at a bus stop about 6 months ago and he was Irish, I can't remember the last time a Roma person asked me for money - maybe 1.5/2 years ago.

Why was there not a DNA test done on the Athlone kid?.On the radio that the kid was a blond blue eyed 2 year old boy.

Have to agree. I've seen them begging alright but I've never personally been approached by anyone except Irish men asking for bus change or hostel money- those that are actually sitting begging tend to be pretty inoffensive I've found. But that's my personal experience so obviously it doesn't mean some are not being aggressive.
Having said that, I don't agree with anyone taking kids or babies begging and would be less inclined to give money to an adult with a child in their arms.

Probably because all the paperwork checked out.

...there is one being done, apparently.

A DNA test was done on both children. The Gardai are waiting for the results of both tests.

Conclusive proof they have gone from begging to kidnapping.

So they are happy detaining one kid and leaving the other off.

I wonder what the reaction would be if the Gardai were to take an Irish child from their family like this. There'd be murder and lave lanh would be absolutely inundated with calls. You may not like the Roma but surely we can't allow the authorities to take children from them based on public hear say?

Doesn't happen much now, but I remember about 10-15 years ago there would be young Roma boys going down Grafton Street begging for money and pulling out of handbags. I had to tell them to f**k off on the odd occasion.

I wonder that became of them when they grew up...

I was 18 1/2 when I found out what my first name was.

Apparently my parents had forgotten to tell me.

You had no documentation in your own name at all??!!

    This post has been deleted.

If the docs were in order for the Athlone child, why was he still removed from his home overnight? It looks like a complete over-reaction by the Gardai. This would not have happened if the family were not Roma. A clear case of racism!

I don't think they are commercially available yet and still at the trial stage. In other words they don't actually exist yet to be used by anybody bar the inventors
