in fairness , with what happened in greece , they were WELL within their rights.

i would rather they were wrong 100 times , than letting one child who was trafficked / kidnapped slip away with the kidnappers.

    some you just cant win
Within their rights to separate a family and remove a child?
Let's see how it plays out. If they tried to take my child I'd have in the ECHR and also the highest court in the land .

Remember how Muslims were treated in the US after 911.

Just out of interest to what we do know in regards to this case.
Is it unusual the the Coombe hospital have no evidence of the birth.

Do hospitals usually keep a full record of all children born?

Yes they do but even if they didn't I'd imagine the majority of the staff who have worked there for the last 8 years or so would remember the time the couple of Indian origin had a very pale, blue eyed baby. It would have been quite the surprise when it happened and a massive talking point.

legislation they used has been hijacked if the child was in danger why only take that one there were other children in the house. Not defending any of this just pointing out the shaky ground there on.

I presume that you didn't get your child by kidnapping it from its parents or from a people trafficker?

If the Guards have suspicion of either of those crimes they are completely within their rights to take the child. If they didn't take it they would be in dereliction of their duty.

totally with their rights , there was a question of the possibility that the child may have been kidnapped - if they done nothing they would have swung for that also. as i said , no win situation for the cops really

tough on the parents - but if they are the real parents / guardians , then no problem , child gets returned , if not , then a child is saved

that is how child protection works - the parents feelings don't really come into it until the investigation is completed

racial profiling saved that kid in Greece

    Jesus God,

This girl, Siobhan on Prime time needs to get her head out of her hole, is she blind to all that has happened in the last many years and is now a total guardian of the Roma community.....

What about balanced reporting ?? Where is the other party to counter her propositions that the Roma community are the most 'put upon' ethnic minority in this land.

    Makes me sick.....

    The most put upon..

Don't they have exclusive use of a free medical centre in waterford or Wexford? I remember reading an article about it..

There are unconfirmed reports that the child will be returned to her family tomorrow.

    end of story

as i said to the other poster - what will/would your stance have been if it turned out the the child was kidnapped ?

    Why would you hope that?
The guards were given information with relation to a child protection issue. They visited the family, we're not provided with enough information by the "parents" and removed the child until the situation can be clarified.

And you want the state to be sued for thousands?
    For what?
    For upholding legal obligation ?

    I despair sometimes

Of course you report just like people did years ago but the state failed to act.

There had to be a better way to go about this. The child was taken from her family which might have a huge emotional effect.Stinks of over reaction and racism.

If child care workers came in and saw the kid was happy could they not of got their facts right first before taking her away. Itll be like a lotto win for this Roma family at the taxpayers expense.

Why? Presuming they are EU citizens then they have every right to be here.

    For what exactly?

The distress caused by removing a child from their loving family.

Imagine this happened to an Irish child with an Irish family. How do you think they would feel?

Just the start of it in reality. I suspect we're about to discover major child trafficking routes all across Europe.

Bit of a shot in the dark on my part but with the seemingly new ground covered in the reopened Maddie McCann case and the sudden emergence of Roman Gypsy families having found to have children that weren't their own in two respective European Countries??....Is it all linked or a mere coincidence?

Imagine if this had have happened with an Irish family.

So what you are saying is that only Irish families should be investigated in relation to child protection issues for fear of being labelled a racist should the case be unfounded?

so you think the 2 hours the cops spent with the family they were having chit chat ?
they do not take children away without a concern or suspicion,
something was not right and they acted
they had to act , the family will not have a leg to stand on when it comes to compo

An Irish family reported under suspicion of having an abducted child, lying about the birth, and producing a dodgy birth cert?

I'd expect them to be treated in exactly the same manner.

Imagine if this had have happened with an Irish family.

You mean if a ginger freckled Irish couple have a black or asian baby and no explanation as to how or where they got the baby? No birth cert, passport, birth records, adoption papers.

I'd imagine it wouldn't be all that different really.
