Forgotten password

    Hello!

    My son has forgotten the password for his HP Pavilion dm 1 laptop. It is JUST back from being repaired and he reset the password after getting it back...obviously he set it wrong, as it's not letting him in :mad:

    Can anyone help please?

    There are a multitude of windows password recovery tools you can use Lucy, but the easiest and fastest one I've found by far is this one -


    Offline NT Password Editor


    You can download it to a USB stick, boot up your laptop, then just follow the instructions through. Usually I just blank out the password and when I get back into windows I set a new one.

    I presume you have tried bating the password out of the child? If not, then this is probably the simplest place to start ;)

    Do you have a password recovery disk?

    If you do not, then this page has some info that may help.

    You will need a 2nd PC to do it. Basically you burn a CD with password recovery software on it, then boot the 'locked'PC from the CD. I have not tried this personally, but it should work OK. If you do not have a 2nd PC, then th elaptop has to go back to the shop :eek:. If you do bring it back, ask them to burn a password recovery CD for you, that way you'll be able to recover it yourself in future.

    I could bate him across the head with the fecking laptop. His laptop has no CD drive...I presume booting from a USB will be the same?

    It's true...women are AWESOME at multitasking. I'm doing this, burning the dinner, roaring at everyone and trying to pacify the dog...:rolleyes::o

    Yep, you can boot from the USB key once you format the USB key and copy over the files you just downloaded. I think on HP laptops you've to press F10 at the HP logo on startup to get into the BIOS to change the boot sequence settings.
