Ha Ha sure that's what we all say, especially when ya get stuck and have no other choice but to ring someone :)

Happened a friend of mine years ago, got his altezza stuck on the bog, he had to ring me at 5am! The only thing he sunk that night was the back axle :pac:

Got the impression it doesn't. There is moss growing round the outline of the car and tyres and the tyres themselves look a bit perished.

Shame as there isn't many of them around anymore.

OH and myself have been weighing up the cost of taxing the C5, getting it through the NCT etc, and are half tempted to just scrap it, we'd get a couple of hundred quid for it scrapping it, and tbh, that's what we'd clear if we did a private sale.

All we'd have to do is get a new logbook and scrap it without any hassle. Any thoughts?

    Good grief don't tax it!!!

Do you think it'll pass an net in it's current state? If you think it will just lash it in and then advertise it.

Just me, I feel awfully bad seeing cars go to the scrap yard. Plus you'll only get buttons.

What year C5? What's wrong with it?

Well our thinking is for a lot of hassle we might make a hundred euro, as opposed to scrapping it, and I (owning an alfa) know a few reliable scrappers :D

OH tends to agree *he defers to me in most matters motors related* we don't need the odd hundred we might get and all the hassle of selling.

Should pass NCT, but not due until end of Jan, so it's taking up space in our limited driveway

It's a 2003 1.8 petrol so worth at best €1000, has an engine warning light after long journeys but otherwise driving fine, reset is fine for the warning light and mechanic can't find any fault code for it, seems to be common on C5s

Your not getting any where near that in scrap value. Is the light all that's wrong with it? Sure reset it, fire it through the NCT, polish and a hoover, then up on done deal for 800. Gone in a day.

You could be cheeky and ask for 950 even I'd reckon.

What would a scrappy give you? 300 or so?
I'd pop her up on donedeal for 600 and it'll be gone in the morning.
Or send it to the same place as the 156!:p

Scrap value of €150 absolute tops these days, you'll have to find him happy!
We scrapped a Grand Voyager and got €140.

You'll find a buyer, stick it up :)

    The petrol hater?

We are just looking at the cost of tax due to new rules, NCT , insurance swapping and that alone comes close to €500 so scrapping for 2-3 hundred with no expense makes sense.

I might throw it up on donedeal this week, and see if feature in bangernonics :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,313 ✭✭✭Mycroft H

You'd be even hard pushed to find that 200-300 from a scrap merchant.

Plus I've an awful soft spot for the C5. Mine didn't get the name of the the flying sofa for nothing....

You don't need to tax it.
New owner is liable for the tax from date of purchase so the tax out won't worry them.

Pop her up on donedeal for 600 then. You shouldn't have any problem shifting it at that.
Feck is pop her up at 900 and drop by 50 or so each day.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

If you decide to keep it, just 'sell' it to the OH who can either 'sell' it back to you then you tax it or they just go ahead and tax it. No arrears for a new owner.

I have the shipping company trying to mess me about, I sent a price list to them when I discovered all the damage to my car with the prices of 2nd hand parts in Japan, I was told to get a quote from an Irish repair place which I did, now It seems like the don't like Irish prices as they are considering my price list as a quote for repair and saying there is a large difference in estimate so they only want to give me 33% of the price list value:eek:

Come on people, actually read what your given.

I have a 180 mile round trip each day this week :(

Not helped by getting lost on the way home and spending twenty minutes trying to find the M6.

Anyone been on the northbound N/M6 recently and found the road surface a bit weird?

Oooh Masterchef Australia on Watch atm is featuring the Australian Alfa Romeo Club :D

My dad got a parking ticket for parking outside his own house in town (rental house) he was annoyed to say the least I thought it was a bit of a joke tbh. When he appealed it they said he'd still have to pay. At least you got off id imagine its a great feeling.
