I'm honestly not sure if you are serious or joking about.

If only grappling was as simple as learning a magically armbar defense.
They aren't getting armbar'd because they don't know how to defend against them (Kaufman was a brown belt for example). Its because they are getting dumped on their back while Ronda maintains a over/underhook. The armbar is exposed before they've hit the mat.

She is hunting for the armbar now, as its a record of sorts that she probably likes. But it's a huge stretch to call her a one trick pony. If anything, the one trick to her success is her judo throws - the armbars are a byproduct of that.

Nicely explained, but to a person who doesn't know that much about the sport, if they look at her record and just see Arm Bar x 12 then they can be forgiven for thinking, ah sure, one trick pony, just stop her arm bar and you've won

Yeah, of course. It's a ridiculous looking record tbh. She makes it looks easy too, but there's a lot going on in her attack.

I had a tenner bet on Carmouche to win in the first round in her last fight, sooo nearly came off, somebody will figure her out soon enough, it always happens to every supposedly unbeatable champion

The others in the division are drilling enough judo, eventually somebody will scramble to a back take off of an imperfect throw. I'd be focusing on that kinda of defense rather evade the throw, as she just adjusts and nails them with a 2nd or 3rd follow up.

There's talk of Kyra Gracie moving to MMA in the future. She'd be a 135 too I think. If she can adapt to the striking, then she presents a hugely interesting match with Rousey.

People have already been asked to knock off the fighter bashing. Warnings/Infractions have been handed out. Next one will be taking a few days off

No fight next week and they are doing a re-cap show of the season highlights so far. Did I hear that right? WTF?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,598 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Probably because they need to stretch it out as Rousey v Tate isn't till December now. The end of year show as a co main to Weidmann v Sonnen.

Enjoyed the fight this week. Was really cheering on Wooten.and glad he pulled out off.

Is it just me or are they really trying to portray Tate in a bad way all of a sudden, even though all they're doing is pulling pranks (they wore comedy glasses and mustaches for God sake)

Rousey wants a dictionary and a good read of the racism description. Her rant was pathetic, petty person by everything seen on the show. I find it hard to believe a champion would be distracted/irritated by those trivial things like the pictures on the walls, unless everything is for the camera.

Close and enjoyable fight from the main, 2 week break is terrible btw.

The 2 week break is joke, barely worth tuning in next week.

Also, maybe it is just the editing, but I did find myself turning a little bit back to team Rousey last episode...

She is certainly coming across as insecure and overly bitchy, but I do kinda see her point about Tate being passive aggressive and 2 faced.

There's no doubt Tate hates Ronda just as much, and both her and Caraway have been very vocal about it before. But I just get the impression that Tate is smart enough to play a game, pretend to be nice and professional etc because she knows that it will only rile up Rousey even more and make her look bad.

The whole issue Tate always makes now of coming smiling to Ronda after a fight, offering her hand and saying "good fight" just seems very forced and designed to get a reaction.

Of course Ronda's reaction is juvenile and silly, but I think Meisha knows it will be and that's why she draws it from her.

Offering your hand to your opponent and saying good fight is just being professional, doesn't matter if its faked or forced it's just being professional, Rousey seems to be losing it a bit more with each episode. Giving someone the finger in a professional sporting environment is just a crappy and unprofessional way to act.

I did really enjoy Rousey's training techniques for movement on the floor though would be nice to see more of that stuff

Who fúcking cares if Rousey didn't shake her hand after the fight or if Tate didn't buy the lads in the gaff gifts...?

The drama in this show is utter garbage and doesn't need to be there. They should just show training from both sides in the run up to the fight, some weight cut stuff (like they did) and then the fight.

I hope Rousey wins in December. She is the better fighter and so far hasn't let any "pranks" get in the way of her training. She seems to be 100% focused on the task at hand. Can't say the same for Edmund unfortunately.

But it's a reality show. I don't understand when people complain about the drama aspect, that's what reality TV is.

This show isn't aimed at the die hard MMA fan, it's aimed at people who don't watch MMA but might have a passing interest in reality TV. They watch the show, the drama gets them emotionally invested, the follow it til the end and then they tune in to UFC shows to see how the guys did. That's how a lot of people became fans after TUF 1, it's how a lot of people have become fans in the past and, even though the format is stale at this point, it's a good vehicle for bringing in those who aren't normally watching MMA.

I didn't think the UFC still had to make these drives twice a year to get new viewers. The sport has a huge following and I don't think it's not "the fastest growing sport in the world" anymore.

Anyone Find the Edmond Rousey image?

    It's your one from dodgeball.

Probably the thing that stands out to me most this season is how poor both of the main coaches are in the corner. We're not seeing too much of the training so it's hard to gauge - but I really thought two high level competitors would be better eyes, ears and mouths for their fighters.

Maybe that's true, but at the end of the day that's still what the show is about.

If they wanted to have a tournament where they'd bring in unknown fighters to win a contract that was aimed solely at MMA fans, they'd put the fights on UFC cards.

This is a different format. At the end of the day, it's an MMA tournament masquerading as a reality TV show and they have to strike the balance.

Some fighters don't always make great cornermen. I remember Tito's cornering seemed to consist of "UP, UP, UP, UP, UP, UP, UP!"

True and in a sense you might even expect that of someone of Tito's vintage. It's not even that some of the corner skills aren't sharp it's the strategic mistakes that surprise me.

I know, and I did acknowledge that Rousey has been consistently unprofessional and immature.

But after the first time Tate offered the handshake after a fight and Rousey refused, I think Tate is making very sure to do it every time because she knows she'll get the same reaction.

She seems to be deliberately pushing Rousey's buttons because she knows it's a guaranteed reaction and will make her look better. That is a bit petty and immature also.

Dana has said that the promo was a mistake and that next week will be a normal show as per usual.

dana would just love every fighter to "let their hands go". should just keep his mouth shut really - hes not coaching and shouldn't have a say regarding fighters strategy. laughed out load when he said that.

tate is almost as bad as rousey. ronda is doing herself no favours but mischa is just going out to wind her up as much as she can at this stage. the pranks aren't funny so they must be doing it to simply cause a reaction. two very unlikeable people.

I too would like to see more training footage and weight cut stuff. its miles more interesting than the "drama" which lets face it theres not much of - bar ronda losing it every so often.

Ronda stoops to the race card tut tut!

Have no idea why Cody Bolinger didnt make weight in the last episode. There must have been something going on behind the scenes because he didnt seem to care. Seems to have gotten something though:

For all her talk, Sarah Moras looked to have very poor stand-up. Cant see her beating Juliana.
