This is a question just to satisfy my curiosity, if I am using a function in excel and text is the output, why do I have to use double quotes instead of single quotes.
    e.g IF((A2>D2),"A is bigger","A is not bigger")

Because " is the delimiter for a string. A ' is used to precede a string in a cell which otherwise would be considered a formula
