I was speaking this morning to someone involved in Kilmaley GAA, they are very unhappy that they are involved in a relegation playoff and are going to object, because of the structure of the whole thing (1 rule for relegation and another for playoffs) and the fact that the rules were changed why the competition was ongoing this might mean that the whole thing is postponed pending the appeal, faricial to say the least

How does the relegation work this year? I read something a while back about it which didn't make a whole pile of sense. Something about seven teams going into a draw to eliminate three teams, which to me implied two teams having the unfair advantage of playing a preliminary relegation play-off while the other 5 teams go straight into a do or die relegation play off.

Are the Intermediate champions going to be promoted or at least given a play-off? Limerick are cutting the SHC from 16 to 12 teams and disappointingly they decided not to promote (or even offer a play-off to) the Intermediate champions.

They changed it about a month ago that instead of all the teams that were not in the quarter finals being in relegation play offs and having (I think) 4 teams dropped down, that it would be just 1 team, this was to try to keep the clubs happy that the championship would be ran off over consecutive weekends in October, the only problem is when they changed the rules for the relegation they didn't check to make sure they have the same rules as the main competition, so you have a team 3rd in their group (Kilmaley) in a relegation play-off while the team in last aren't at risk because 1 rule is for scoring differences and the other is for head-to-head meetings

Crusheen, SMB, Clonlara and Inagh/Kilnamona to advance. Think the amalgamation might have a surprise in store for the Blues

in truth its anyone's to win i jumped the gun a bit with some of my predictions, i had it posted within minuets of hearing the draw,

yes crusheen in my opinion should be one of the front runners in the betting ranks at this stage and i would'nt be one bit surprised if they did progress to the semi's but i have been sticking my neck out for ballyea for a while now and i think the game a week format to the championship will suit them, its not an ideal draw for them though.

Kilmaley apparently lodged 2 objections in writing yesterday, 1 affecting the relegation play offs and another that affected the whole competition, these meant that the whole competition would have to be paused until the whole thing was sorted out. By some miracle the whole thing was sorted last night without the appeal being dealt with............
St Joseph's Doora/Barefield will now play Tulla with the loser facing Clarecastle to decide who plays Senior B in 2014

I better not go on about the Clare County Board or else I'll have to ban myself

I think Clonlara will have a big say in who wins it this year

What time is the crusheen v ballyea game starting in the park does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,845 ✭✭✭Hidalgo

Crusheen V Ballyea @4pm today in the Park.
Double header tomorrow in the park, Mills V Clonlara @2.30 and Newmarket V Inagh-Kilnamona @4.

Sixmilebridge V Tubber in Clarecastle @2pm I think. There's also a doubleheader there with Sixmilebridge Intermediates playing after the senior game.

Hopefully we won't see a deluge of rain over the weekend.

Graham Kelly has been handed a 12 month suspension, from what I've heard it sounds well deserved, not for the actual incident, but more so for his previous record.

he was involved in far worse incident's in the past in one occasion one player lost several front teeth, one of the kilmihil players did pick up a fractue cheek bone but it was the straw that broke the camel's back fro him in truth as he was an absolute psycho on the field.

an example from a few years back!!!

Big win for ballyea, anyone else fancy them for the championship?

Good game in the park this evening. Nip and tuck pretty much the entire game.
Ballyea did very well in keeping the ball away from Cian Dillon, think only 2 or 3 landed right down on top of him, one which he caught and won a free out, another which Gary Brennan caught and laid off a lovely pass for a pt.

The better team won imo, although Ballyea will neeed to tighten up un the full back line. Both of Crusheen's goals were of the softish variety and as a thank you Crusheen went and gifted Ballyea a goal in return.

Some excellent point scoring in the 1st half, think it was 1-12 to 2-09 at half time. The 2nd half was far more stop start, the heavy pitch not helping matters. Really exciting finish with Ballyea finishing strongly thanks to 3 Kelly frees (one from inside his own 65), one sublime pt from play by Kelly and one from Gary Brennan.

In Brennan and Niall? Deasy Ballyea have 2 good ball winners and both able to hurl as well, Martin O Leary picked off some fine individual pts also,
Tony Kelly was on a different level to everyone else on the pith though. In the 1st half he sat very deep and cleared an amount of ball, at times skipping away from 3 or 4 Crusheen players to send a long relieving clearance. 2nd half he played further forward and tbh he was worth the entry fee alone, some of his touched and striking were top class.
Paul Flanagan went off injured but returned after treatment to finish out the game. They'll need him for the semi final.

Overall, a very good game and whomever faces Ballyea in the semi-final are going to have to devise some plan to try and curb the influence of Kelly.

On another note, I thought the Crusheen management were very quiet on the line, esp compared to the group game a few weeks ago V Inagh-Kilnamona when they were vocal even with that game winding up to a comfortable win.

i taught it was a very good game aswell not the prettiest at times but was always in the balance right up to the last few mins some of tony kelly's score's in the second half were unreal, marty o leary nial deasy played great stuff as did jack browne

i taught the ref was a bit trigger happy at times but in truth it was more from pat vaughan's frees that kept crusheen in the game in my opinion

i have been sticking the neck out for them myself cant go wrong with some one like tony kelly in serious form the return of tony griffin is a big infulance too for such a young team aswella as a couple of young lads chomping at the bit to make a name for themselves that did'nt feature in any of the u21/senior teams this year,

the only thing i would qustion would be there discipline if they came up against someone the like's of colin ryan that would punish them from anywhere

Def frees kept Crusheen in it, for the first 3/4 I thought he was nice to Crusheen then near the end gave a few debatable frees to the Ballyea defence. The most annoying decision of the game was when he blew for a free to Tony Kelly when he gone past a Crusheen defender with loads of space to attack, as it was it could have been a goal chance/handy pt and because of play being brought back for the free it left Kelly with a more difficult opportunity, which he missed.

Looks like they will get the football championship finished for the Munster champ after all. The Cratloe V Cooraclare game was only a second round match today, most championships are finished at this stage!

Can anyone tell me where Jack Browne (corner back on the u21 all ireland winning team) is from?

He plays hurling for Ballyea and football for Kilmihil.

Did he play for Clondegad in the past?

i have a feeling clondegad will be up in arm's over the fixture pile up next weekend some of there key players will be playing for ballyea in the hurling next weekend as well so the likelyhood of any 3rd round match played before the hurling is highly unlikely, in my opinion it it will be played probably on monday and the doonbeg game the following week

Well they were very hard done by yesterday. Clonlara were awarded a point near the end of normal time which was clearly wide, an absolutely disgraceful decision from the umpire & linesman. The Mills should be looking forward to the semi-final.

    Newmarket v Ballyea
    Sixmilebridge v Clonlara

Domhnall O'Donovan is away with work so Clonlara do not want to play this weekend

Would imagine smb are favourites for the championship now. Hearing great things about their performances. ..
