Hi. Any advice on 3G glass coat car protection? Supposed to protect both inside and outside of car for at least 5 years and comes with a 5 year guarantee. No need to wax car during this time just run it through cheapest car wash programme. Reanult dealer charging €300 for it. Would love to hear from anyone who has it on their car.

Just used most of a tube of Autosol on the exhaust tip. I'd say there was 9 years of dirt there so I used some rough wire wool, then some fine and finished up with an old microfiber, now the exhaust is allot cleaner but I can't get it shiny, any tips?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Wire wool should have done the job....what grade did you use? Should be using the finest grade, usually 0000 Grade on the packaging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,553 ✭✭✭dylbert

Not sure of the grade, was just a pack of assorted wool, coarse, medium and fine, I'll get some 0000 tomorrow and have another go.

I assume that the tip is supposed to be shiny? Some tips arent shiny originally and you wont get it shiny if it isnt!

I think so, I'm sure I've seen other IS200's with polished tips, unless the weren't standard exhausts.

Is it chrome tips or stainless?
    if chrome
You may not get them shiny as the chrome may be worn off
If stainless then I'd say clean is as good as it would get.

Had another look, I'd say it stainless, seems to have a textured matt finish so will probably never polish to a shine but it looks 100 times better than it did.

I was in Tesco's earlier and had a look for some Daisy APC, couldnt find any, all the had was Tesco's own brand APC, will that do the same job? and what concentration should I use to wash the car?

Tescos own brand should do fine.
I use Aldi's stuff. Lovely stron lemon smell from it.
I would normally use 1 capfull to half dish of water to wipe down the interior of my car. Keep's it nice and fresh.

I used some the other day with a mix of Fairy liquid, Snow foam and APC to remove wax from my car.
    Perfectly safe.

Gave the combi a wash/dry and a second coating of Gtechniq C2V3.
That should see it sealed up fort a few months.

Hard to show shine on silver but it is not looking too bad at all for the little amount of work involved.

What mix ratio did you use?

You could use a very strong mixture without issue....provided its not regular usage.
    1:1:1:1...APC : Fairy : Snowfoam : Water

Obviously thats overkill on the Fairy....but through a lance....
Using your regular amount of snowfoam
3 times that amount of APC
    1/4 the amount for Fairy
    Topped up with water!

Used to use Magifoam and APC to help remove wax before claying as I found Magifoam stripped the wax I usually use.

So today I took the seats out and gave the carpet and mats a thorough deep clean. Pictures don't show much because really, it wasn't that dirty at all. Just dust and a few spots here and there. Looks much fresher now.

    Before:

    qel8.jpg

    After:

    ijqu.jpg

Then I got out the Iron Cleanse and did the alloys. They haven't been done since I applied the Gtechniq C1. These pics are of the rear wheel as I forgot to take pics of the front but the 2 fronts were worse when it comes to brake dust.

    Before:

Bleeding out the Iron and contaminants:

After light and gentle agitation with a soft alloy wheel brush:

Car "professionally" washed, detared, clayed and polished during the week. Snow foamed yesterday and laid down a coat of Collinite 476s. Today it got a second coat of Collinite, glass cleaned with professional glass cleaner and rain-x. 3 1/2 hours work over the 2 days. Shiny enough for ya?

Nothing much only a winter protection on my sons E46
Not much time spend on the DA as I would have liked to but got a good few swirls etc. out of it.

    Usual wash

Paint was prepped last week using a combo of
Wolfs "The Correctional Utility" on an orange Hex pad which gave good results for the time spent on it.

Finished with Wolfs "The Jeweler" on Hex Black pad

    Car was washed again

2 coats of Gtechniq C2V3 applied and left for a week

Yesterday car was washed again and topped with

2 coats of Collinite 845 and one coat of Britemax Vantage

Tyres were treated with Wolfs Blackout.

Wheels were left as new tyres going on soon and want to do a wheels off job on them

Windscreen was re-treated with repellant. ( No idea what it is as it is a sample I got )

Interior was hoovered and rinsed with a solution of apc and warm water.
Leather was treated with the Glyptone twins.

Windows were cleaned with Einszett Windscreen Clear Glass Cleaner

Did not get much time to grab a few pics as it belted down rain and he had to head away.

Not looking too shabby I think :)

Fecking tree sap! Just after washing/cleaning the car and as soon as I'm finished, sap on the windows!
Started off rinsing, did a snow foam, still haven't got it right, rinse again. Only have the one bucket but have a grit guard. Washed with AGS, then rinsed. Used orchard autocare wheel cleanse. Windows were a mix of rain x and AG polish. Waxed two coats of meguairs wax. Hoovered and cockpit cleaned. Waxed wheels too

Ag polish on the windows, how that work out? I taught that was exclusively for paint.

I know I know, I have been meaning to get an extra one for some time! More importantly I got it washed and cleaned while the dog was out eating everything in sight!

I started a full treatment yesterday on a car that's only ever seen a brush (not by me!): two bucket wash, dry, de-tar, clay, wash, dry, followed by SRP. As luck would have it, after 4 hours, it started lashing just as I was buffing off. Oh well, some nice beading ensued:

    OEm9BuS.jpg

Went back out this morning and I am fairly impressed with the result. It's still a bit swirly at night under artificial light, but I can't justify a DA considering the price of the car.

Hopefully I can get back out in a day or two to get some EGP and tyre dressing on, and do the windows...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Make sure to get EGP on it, or the SRP will just wash away. It might be best to give it a quick coat of SRP before the EGP to help fill more of the swrils.

Aside from that, it looks great as it stands! Fair play! ;)

Also, Dougie, I expected to see a trail bike being cleaned :D

I think I asked this before but wax after EGP (after SRP)?
