Not wanting to open a political debate but you're dealing with a crowd who refused to continue a given motorway over the border and instead opted for a Dual Carriageway.

Which side? Coming from the south it changes from a M road to a decent N road which for all intents and purposes is as good as.

The Northern side is pants. Both their motorways and dual carrigeways.

Clutch felt a bit "gritty" on release yesterday evening. It was fine in the morning when I got to work. Later that night when I was driving again it seemed better. Anyone experienced this before?

I should mention it was done just over a year ago.

It's also expensive to change. That's where my problem starts. Expensive to fix and expensive to change.

If you remember the time I was debating the same thing I ultimately decided to spend the money on it and know I'd have a good car and infairness as annoyed and disappointed as I was with it it hadn't cause any trouble in the last few months. Your in the same situation your fcuked if you change it and fcuked if you keep it but at least if you spend the money on it you know its a good car and you know what been done to it. The saying the devil you know ... Definitely applies you could easily buy another car and have loads of hassle with it. Best of luck and hope you get it all sorted out.

Yep that's what I'd be thinking, as Bp said. Fixing this car will ultimately mean that you have great car under you, buying one with repair money spent + car could still see you with a broken car.
My opinion would be keep her..

For those reasons I'm leaning very much towards fixing it at the minute. If it's sorted there isn't really anything unless the bloody gearbox goes that can give trouble. Add to that if I decide to spend money on it I think I'll sort the interior with some nice leather seats. I may as well make it nice as I'll be keeping it.

My other problem of course is that I like a change and if I fix it then that's out of the question.

Leather would be nice alright. I suppose you need to get a quote first before you can do up the figures and see. Doing the work to it will be the best option unless the cost is completly through the roof. Also if your worried about the gearbox you could ask the garage about changing the gearbox oil although with certain cars there better of left alone as there sealed units etc.

Its a lot of money alright. But in terms of upgrading the car it will cost you a lot more obviously depending on what you buy. How long do you have the car? As you said earlier if you do the work you will be stuck with it for a while so depends whether you like it and would be happy enough to keep it. Cars are funny things because they can grow on you to. If it was working perfect you will find you would probably be happy to keep it for a few years. I find the focus is growing on me which is funny because when it was causing all the trouble specially the motorway 6 hour stranded breakdown I couldn't stand it and hated it.

Lights out in Navan. Misery rain. Arsehole brainless drivers. Traffic gridlocked.

What an epic halfwit dump of all proportions.

Actually, rain brings out the anus in the already festering sheep drivers out there, making them even more dangerous and up their own arses than before.

And my feckin spuds are burnt

Probably growing out of an alfas wheel arches :p.

Yipee, I've finally cured my cars mystery 'shimmy' it was tram lining like a bitch over bumps ( especially when crossing the camber of the road when overtaking)and under braking over bumps, I had the 2 upper control arms replaced (one was rattling and the other was on the way out) this improved things, but it didnt dissapear, ive had the tracking done several times and Ive had 2 different mechanics (both of whom know what they are doing) under her both of whom confirm the front suspension is tight.
I had the wheels changed, front to back, no change, i put a part worn tyre on to replace the one that was worn more than the other. No change:mad:
Finally today I put my semperit tyres on the front (good straight line braking and they are quite a soft and quiet ride but cornering grip is a bit vague which is why they were on the back;) ) and presto......no more tram lining:D
I got a random tyre put on instead of the new bridgestone (ie not the part worn) and put it and the part worn back on the front, no tram lining!

So all my problems were caused by a brand new bridgestone tyre!

So its back on the back now until I can afford 2 new ones.

Any reccomendations? I find the bridgestones great for grip and wear but on my car (i have had them on other cars and they were fine )they are quite harsh (stiff) and noisey on our ****e tar n chip roads.
Anything out there with good grip and wear but quieter and more pilant?
