Can a boxer who turns pro ever return to the amateur ranks.

For argument sake, lets say Nevin does nothing as a pro in the next two years, in 2016 could he decide to focus on the Olympics again?

If this is allowed has anyone ever done it?!

Nope - there's no going back as far as I know.

There's nothing to stop a pro boxer returning to the amateur ranks.
It doesn't happen often but Rocky Marciano did it & I'm sure plenty of others have done too

In the main you are correct but there are exceptions, and it is funny that JJN is used to ask to the question because he has beaten a professional fighter who returned to the AIBA setup in the WSB. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=499665&cat=boxer

Daouda Sow and fellow Frenchman Redoune Asloum went from professional boxing to the WSB, while committing to the AIBA's professional boxing outfit. To my knowledge they will be allowed to fight in the Olympics should they meet the qualifying criteria. Italian Heavyweight Matteo Mogdugno (stopped Sean Turner in the WSB), did the same but went back to the regular pros.

Now would Nevin be able to do this in 2016 ?, no I suspect even if he's allowed to return to AIBA competition in the future, 2016 would be too late for him to be part of a tournament qualifying him for the Olympics.
Either way if he turns pro I hope he stays there, I'm not in favour of the idea of professional fighter competing at the Olympics.
