How long between the notification letter and the visit itself Darragh?

Got the letter here a good few months ago and no phone call yet.

Got the letter in the first week of May. Telling us it had to be done by the end of Sept. We arranged with them for some time in Sept as its a quieter month on the farm.

Just asking really, but what price are young bulls making in the factories at the moment? How come the journal don't print a price? What fat cover do they want, 3?

So more or less the bullock price so? Up to what age does this apply?

no its not bullock price as they arent being killed on the grid unless very young. A U young bull might get 4 euro where as a U bullock would start on a base of 3.90 and get QA and 18c on top so maybe 4.20 for the U bullock. some want bulls up to 18month and some will go to 24months. What you got?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭pakalasa

No, dont have any. I was glancing tru the journal yesterday and couldnt see any prices for young bulls. That's all. Thanks anyway.

I really don't think your dealings on another site has anything to do with this site. If you have an issue with something, you need to report it to the person in charge.

Kovu If you are looking for something to do in the evenings north Meath Macra are a gas bunch. The beef stock judging competition is coming up soon so you might fancy giving it a go. It's on a very prominent suckler farm in the county :D

is mag injection good enough for cow just in very early staggers. She is a bit away from the crush so not wanting to put her under anymore pressure. I can put bottle into the vein unless I move here to crush or goes down. Am I right in Injecting and waiting and see for hour or so and into vein if no improvement??

Bob if you can't get 400 mls under the skin I'd wait till she goes down. Maybe there is a more concentrated form of mag I don't know. I would go with two Cal in vein and one Mag SC.

Rancher, instead of spurting on with a chip on your shoulder, you know that website has an email address too where you can express your concerns.

It is also not fair to be spurting on about this on another forum - as in not fair to the boards.ie community.

And for balance, you were not thrown out from what I can see but your own actions and comments led to you being banned from what I can see.

Your behaviour was far from befitting for a member of an influential farming organisation representing the vast majority of Irish farmers.
That was not a complaint but to stop someone really getting into trouble and it has been taken down.
Now I realise I should have left it to run it course, it wasn't giving me any hassle

its some concentrated form of Mag I have, says to give 100 - 200mls into muscle. Had only 100ml and she was moving around so couldnt give normal mag into the vein. will check her in 2 hrs and see how she is. It will stabalise her anyway. She got it badly last march and was lucky to live when I found her late. She has the express ticket to slaughter but will be shoved up the queue next week

No mag in the vein or you'll send her to the big paddock in minutes

Jeez, what ever you do, don't put that volume of fluid into the muscle

meant to say calcium. permanent sleep with mag into the vein. 5 X 20ml shots at different locations. its a pain when they arent near a crush to give them cal into vein
