Sorry if you took that up wrong. I want someone who DOES park in these spaces to try and explain what mental gymnastics they use to justify it

Basically you just want a row

I am a Freeman of the Land. I do not recognise regulations made by others without my consent so I park wherever I like.

:D:D Be careful with that though. Someone may decide to park on your head.

    Nope Never!

I mean really, how big is a car park that we need to all rush for the space closest to the door Are people going to collapse before the reach the door?

Child spots are another thing.....Was in Aldi when this 100 year old botox junkie parked her 7 series across 2 baby spots, ran in and came back out with a case of wine? Could she not just park in a normal sopt or is she they type that buys a big car and needs the extra space to drive in

Child spots are a load of bo**ix.

The wider child/parent spots are to prevent "little jimmy" dinging your car door as he whacks open his door and jumps out the car acting like hes "Superman" or some sort of "Super Villan"....:pac::D

In my experience lot of people don't realise that the spaces are wider to allow wheelchair users get in and out of the car and think theyre just being lazy and want to park closer

I'd park in them in some places. Some Tesco's for instance have about 20 disabled parking spaces right in front of the shops. If I'm not gonna be long I think it would be safe to assume that between when I arrive and when I leave that its unlikely 20 disabled people would show up and one poor fcuker would be forced to park elsewhere.

This view is further compounded by the fact in all my time shopping there I have never seen any more than 3 of those spaces used at any one time.

    Have you kids??

If a little kid hit scraped your door you'd be the very person to start jumping and shouting all over the car park

I park in the disable spaces in DIY stores like B&Q and Woodies .....if you can do some DIY you ain't that disabled.

Now I have a problem: how do I respond to this post without attacking the poster.

Ah I know... that post is ignorant and arrogant. The type of post that needs a good infusion of consideration by the application of physical abrasion.

The huge big wheelchair logo painted on the tarmac or concrete parking space kinda gives it away though,no??;):pac::D

Just shows that ignorance and arrogance is everywhere. That should be a staff reduction opportunity. :D

I park in them rarely, but I am waiting for my disabled badge to arrive from the IWA. I reckon I will still only use them when I really need to after the badge arrives.

Also what's another fifty or a hundred yards if they can't park in the disabled spot.
    My justification.

For some people, that extra fifty yards could cause more pain, fatigue or issues with walking. I can get about 30 metres before my foot drops to the ground and refuses to lift up. It is very dangerous and I have fallen/ almost fallen on many occasions. It is worse when I am alone as I have no one to lean on, so the spaces closest to the door allow me to not make a show of myself in the shop!

Yeah because mods are all barely literate morons who are easily fooled when you say a post is ignorant and arrogant and needs the shít kicked out of it rather than the poster :D

IMO the use of the blue badge is being abused. I know of able-bodied people using badges belonging to disabled family members.

Disabled parking spaces should be for those with wheelchairs who need the extra space to get into chair.

I walk, as I said, but it makes my trip easier if I can park closer to the main door.

I don't park in them but I do feel some car parks go a bit overkill with the amount of spaces provided. Those parent and child spaces do my head in though, absolutely no justification for them.

I would add that the parent and child spaces are very welcome for those dealing with a troop of kids. Especially in baby seats. Some of the normal spaces are so tight that its almost impossible to manoeuvre yourself to put the baby back in the seat.

You also have to remember that the store realises that a fair bulk of their trade comes from women, mothers etc so this is why they provide them.

Re the disabled spaces, no I wouldn't park in one even if it meant I had to walk a mile. They are there for a reason. i remember a friend of a friend parked on one outside a restaurant and when challenged said that no one disabled would be out that late at night. Pretty disgusting statement.

I have never and will never park in a disabled space. I just don't understand how lazy and selfish someone has to be to use one just to "pop into the shop" rather than walk a few extra steps. I rarely even use the dad and kid spaces when with my daughter, I just park a bit further away in a space with empty spaces on either side.

Disabled spaces are part of the planning permission for car parks and should be provided and regulations applied accordingly. Parent and child spaces are just a nice idea from supermarkets and shopping centres but regulated parking in them in unenforceable.

There's two disabled spaces outside my local shop which are used pretty much all the time by able bodied lazy bastard. I always ask them if they need help getting to the shop when I see them park. This is usually met with a confused face followed by "fcuk off" or just straight out with "fcuk off". Lads in Subarus, Celicas or Civics add "cnut" to the end if their "fcuk off".

I never, ever, ever park in a disabled bay, despite the fact I would qualify for a permit if I applied for one. I consider myself able to walk a bit further than people who genuinely need then. It drives me mad to see drivers abuse the permits they have. I've seen them on builder's jeeps and the like when the owner is clearly working rather that being a carer for a disabled person.

Parent and child spaces? Just because your choice us an inconvenience to you? How about a Man and Case of Beer space? I find it very difficult with the normal narrow parking spaces to get the slab into the back seat, I think the least they could do is provide that service.

    How?
Do you know the physical ability of everyonae who could possibly come to use that car park?

Yes. It's underground, accessed by a fob. It's not even legally enforceable in private car park, it's just for show.

Not everyone who is disabled is in a wheelchair but they might need to be off their feet a lot or get very fatigued if forced to walk further.

I would not and have never parked in a disabled spot - however I HATE it when you're in a multi story car park and there are signs telling me that there are X amount of car parking spaces on the next level, and it turns out that they are all disabled spots. Just please tell me where the spots are that I can actually use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭KwackerJack

Why can't they put the car reg on the badge and a photo??

Maybe they should issue a ' I cant drive for ****' badge for all those who are not disabled but seem to need all that space to park there truck they think their driving!

How do you know how many disabled drivers there are around? Also, its the size of the parking space in question, they are larger, so people can get in and out easier, also some cars have rear loading for wheelchairs, and need approx. six feet of clearance. "I just got me hair done", "I'll only be a minute" etc etc Bullshine!, there is NO justification.
