Why aren't ye're accounts done since last Feb? It's impossible to plan without getting them done early. I get a discount for having all info in to them in Jan

you have a female accountant, that would be some bit better:), When I have my yearly Tax discussion with my guy I start dreaming about watching paint drying

Our last lad was like that only too tight to buy paint.

Couldn't do that early. Some of the info I need isn't to hand until Feb/Mar. Each year I think I'll do it earlier but unfortunately like most people I need an impending deadline

Good idea on behalf of your accountant though. That would be a good incentive.

two of the heifers that might be heading to the mart thurs

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,949 ✭✭✭delaval

These are tax accounts;), I fail to see what having tax accounts done early bring to farm planning, maybe for dairy its different as your whole money set up is very regular

    Tax planning, no surprises Bob.
If you've your head screwed on you can get a lot more than tax info from your bean counter.

Each to their own, but I would be very slow on taking any advice off an accountant on how to run my business. if your waiting till year end to know how your business is performing, its abit too late already. do people not have a pretty close idea how they are doing monthly?

Im often very surprised how much tax other farmers tell me they are after paying, given its not too hard to take a stab with what their profit figures would be if they are milking. maybe they just have a poor accountant

    Away for the night.
Got a call at 5,30 this pm to be told I'm having a Co Co inspection on an out farm tomorrow at 3.

So pints tonight and home to face the music after meeting tomorrow. I was hoping to stay for the afternoon conference session.

They could give a bit more notice!!!

tell them your busy at something else, they are not mandatory. Also mention that the old man that owns the place is a bit eccentric and will probably be in the yard as he is mad for shooting crows. In all the inspections I have ever had, I have never gotten notice, and there have being more of them at this stage than days in the month, they just walk straight in or ring to say they are standing like spare pricks outside the gate and the dogs not being welcoming, pity I cant train rover to attack one of them.
Anyway pen and paper and take ages writing everything down and ask loads of questions. have a copy of the Nitrates Directive printed out just to assure them your no walk over.
http://www.environ.ie/en/Legislation/Environment/Water/FileDownLoad,19875,en.pdf. If in doubt you can give me a call as I know the bible inside out and back the front.:). Speaking of useless sh*tes, they havnt being here since February

I have a different policy. I just play the complete dummy. A shut mouth can't get you in trouble. It's amazing how superior they feel and walk straight into a mistake.
This will be my 3rd in 2 years. I've given up stressing but will also make sure I'm there in case the mental patient who owns the farm walks into something

tried that for a bit but didnt work as we are located the perfect distance for the milage allowance and there is a serious place for grub not far away for the dinner allowance, and im serious. The firmer I got with them the more they backed off. Most of the guys out doing the inspections dont know the in's and out's of the law so write down what they say. Friend of mine works for another authority in industrial enviro side of things and he said in a couple of places he goes they follow him around with a video camcorder:). 3rd in 2years - ah you deserve one so if they only call out that often;)
